    Another month, another cult music figure dies. If you read Simon Reynolds' excellent 'Rip It Up And Start Again' you'll see just how unsavoury he could be - and at exactly the same time just how enthralling and entertaining he was. For good or ill, he shaped the modern music industry - for example, hit records by people who can't sing:

    Bloody heck. That was a shock. Been reading and turns out he's had cancer a while. I remember as a teenager loving the brilliant Madame Butterfly stuff he did. Still have the vinyl album and single somewhere. Best thing he ever did if you ask me:
