I went along on the opening night PQ and loved every second of it. I suspect some folk were disappointed by the lack of interaction from Mr. Francis and the business like efficiency with which they tore through Doolittle and related B-sides, but for me it was nothing short of brilliant. Having only ever seen them in Landsdowne Rd, where the sound was woeful and Kim Deal was nothing more than a coral-cardiganed dot in the distance, it was a dream realised to see and hear them in a venue like the Olympia. They kicked off with the B-sides and then the opening riff of Debaser rang out to frenzied applause....The sound, while not pristine, was pretty great, Kim Deal was her usual bonkers self and BF's voice was in surprisingly good nick. I was transported back to a pre-internet adolescence of cassette walkmen, radio addiction and ferocious consumption of music magazines...and it felt good.
