When I go running I normally do so by borrowing my wife's iPod Nano (despite the fact I hate all things Apple) as it's nice and compact and doesn't add any extra weight (my belly does that!).

Last weekend though, before I ran the half marathon I found a really old creative MP3 player that, when I charged it, I discovered was full of albums I don't listen to any more.

The most enlightening discovery on it was how good JJ72's eponymous debut album still sounds.  Fair enough, not everybody likes balls out rock, but when the organisors have decided to make mile 8-9 almost vertical, balls out rock really helps you get through. And there are some really cracking tunes on there.

Anyway, has anyone else re-discovered any old records they don't listen to that much any more recently?

I did this deliberately a while back - went looking for old albums that I listened to non-stop when they came out. First up, 'The World Won't End' by the Pernice Brothers - it still sounds fab from start to finish, even with Joe's weak voice.

(The Chapelizod side of the Park, was it? I remember doing the 10-miler there when it finished on top of the steeper side and people tried to sprint up it. My God. There were bodies strewn around, screams of agony, copious swearing - it was like Dunkirk, or Dingle on the August bank holiday weekend.)

Anyway, sorry - from 'The World Won't End' here a song that isn't the best on the album but still good, 'Working Girls':

indeedy. went through an old box of cd's a while back for a long car trip. few decent ones but rekindled my 90's love affair with 'grand prix' by teenage fanclub. what a glorious album from start to finish.

Agreed. Did I see somewhere that Norman Blake has a new project these days?

which reminds me of an album called Words of Wisdom and Hope I picked up for a quid in a basket @ Help the Aged a good while back: a collaboration between Teenage Fanclub and Jad Fair, a clinker of an album

Grand Prix is a simply brilliant album... most definitely the Fannies career highlight.

I listened to Going Blank Again by Ride the other night. Always a pleasure... and it's been years since I played it.

Unfortunately I can't embed this link but this is Ride live on the Word (remember that show!)... some great shoe-gazey dancing in the audience.
