As a man who constantly sways between Blur and Oasis, i've got to say that if Stephen Ireland ends up back in an Ireland jersey as a result of his trip home to go to Slane, thats going to end it for me once and for all: Oasis

But what if he got stuck in the queue in for two hours, another hour for a beer, then couldn't get the bus home until 4 a.m.? He's probably burning his passport AND birth cert as we speak.

(Also, if we qualify without him playing a single qualifier then he shouldn't be asked to come to South Africa anyway - unless he's back for the play-offs and nicks the winner.)

ha ha he was lucky though he had a VIP pass, as did John O'Shea, i can just picture them in the green room backstage, the man utd player on his knees begging the man city player to come back, while the gallagher brothers look on with glee!!

Im not so sure about Stephen Ireland not getting a call up if he doesnt play a qualifier - what would be the difference (off the pitch issues aside) between Ireland getting the call or a guy like Chris McCann or Rory Delap hitting a rich vein form after we qualify (touchwood) and costing darron gibson or keith andrews a squad place? very little IMO

This smacks of the same cutting off your nose-ism as was Roy Keane's exile from 2002. To conceive of going to South Africa without our best (as opposed to best available) attacking midfielder, is insane. Period. I don't care what he's done - he seems a disturbed wee man in truth - he should be there if we make it.

Despite the fact that Ireland is clearly several a nutjob (pink car/superman pants/hair plugs), everything and anything should be done to get him back playing for us.  I am perfectly willing to provide sexual favours should it come down to that.

Also...despite the monobrowed ones intervention, it'll have to be blur for me.

Heard one of the mid-Atlantic jocks on Lilly Allen FM yesterday say that 'Theres no other way' is not on the Mid-Life introduction / best of Blur CD. Why ever not if this be true

I'm no shrink, but in an interview I read, Stephen Ireland was just about holding it together and is in a decent mental state now with life at City and doesnt want to rock the boat with the pressures and travelling involved playing for his country, which is fair enough. (for the record I'd love him to be playing)

for their first 2 albums, Oasis for me
