Any thoughts on the best gig of the year? I really enjoyed Battles at Vicar Street, and Dan Deacon was amazing too - as for smaller gigs around the country, a Justice-style Dublin electro duo called DeadBots played in a small nightclub in Tullamore - class. I also got to see Ham Sandwich in Tullamore in the town square (bejaysus) - didn't realise that living at home for a couple of months would actually be a good link to catch some real talent.

Any obscure/unheard of favourite gigs of the year??

For me it was probably Sigur Ros at the Werchter Festival.

Bejaysus, didn't think anyone else from Tullamore posted here. missed that Ham sandwich gig. Was that around the time of the fleadh?
Where were DeadBots playing? Was that in Loughreys? Haven't been in that places in ages?

My own top gigs of the year:

    Melt Banana in Crawdaddy
    Torche in Whelans
    Metallica in Marlay Park
Juliana Hatfield in the Sugar Clun
    neville staple in the academy
    municipal waste in fibbers
the walkmen in the button factory

That's all I can think of for the moment

I didn't go to many gigs this year, I tried to get along to Stereolab recently but was sick.

Out of the limited gigs I did see, probably Ladytron, was surprised at how awesome they actually were live. There's always a danger that an electronic act like that can be a little flat live, but they were great.

Breeders were great too, but aren't they always?

Yes the Sambos played around the time of the Fleadh alright. And Deadbots were in Loughrey's. Natty Wailer is playing in the Thatch on the 28th Dec - I saw him play Eyre Square last year and he was class!

If we're talking best international gigs of the year it would be Ida Maria and VV Brown in The Academy, Newcastle.
Also - BSS in Vicar Street were class!
