if you can negotiate 80% of the door for the band, with no guarantee, then happy days. you'll have to work out a rough heads through the door @ x amount to garner an estimated amount. most bands will look for a guarantee of course. But there would be a fierce difference in cost and bookings in your 2 examples above. The Harvest Ministers could be booked directly with the band (I'm assuming) and would be most likely cost you less, and AMC would have to be got when on tour, would cost more, you'd be in competition with the big, ugly, souless money grabbing promoters and you'd be dealing with a booking agent, and my experience of booking with a band via a booking agent / label can take the fun out of the whole experience...label meetings, tour meetings, squeezing as much out of you as they can get C_G, drop me your email address to peterquaife@hotmail.com and I will pass on any knowledge I have from booking bands...but I'm sure there are folk on this forum would have much more experience and insight than me, but if I can help, happy days PQ
