Thanks for posting the clip Quint. 'You Made Me Realise' is a brilliant song, but whats the appeal of 30mins of gut-churning white noise? I don't get it.

You kinda have to be there to get it I think. It was incredible to experience but whenever I'd heard about it before I thought it was something terribly self indulgent.

What Unicron said. You really had to be there, Peejay. I understand your point but if you're there and you start feeling the weird physical and psychological symptoms of being exposed to such high volume levels, it really is a rare and unique experience. I've seen Mogwai live 8 times and EVEN THEY now sound quiet in comparison... believe me that's REALLY saying something.

It was just completely mindblowing. It went beyond the conventions of what a live gig is supposed to be about. But the 'holocaust' section of 'You Made me Realise' section is only part of the gig, they sounded incredible live and all the songs from both 'Loveless' and 'Isn't Anything' sounded great. They really pulled it off big time. Perfect. Roll on Electric Picnic...if they do the 'holocaust' at EP it will be the talking point of the whole festival for weeks afterwards.

Is it possible for them to recreate those ultra-high volumes in an outdoor setting I wonder?.. Supposed to be seeing them at Roskilde next week (well, either them or Neill Young - apparently there's a schedule clash). Presumably there'll be a limit on the PA at festivals etc.. I can see the reasons in favour of the 20-minute 'chord from hell' section of their show (i.e. a physiological experiment, sensory overload, trance induction) but from the appearance of the fans in the photos\videos it seems to be skirting a fine line between transcendance and torture!

Ive seen "the Twilight Sad" (Scottish Shoegaze types) play in the village last year and they were very very loud to the point were i almost felt physically sick!

But my god that MBV footage looks crazy, ive never seen so many people cover there ears before haha!!

There's 2 kinds of people in the world, those that can hack "You made me realise," and those that can't.

It's actually worse when you're covering your ears (as I did briefly) because you can feel the beating the low end is giving you. As for volume at EP, there'll be loads of volume coming off of their stacks as well as the PA, it'll be plenty loud, and it'll f**k over anyone else that's playing at the same time.

Fair enough. Personally Im already half-deaf, I don't want to finish off the job in one night.

In all seriousness I am gonna bring plugs to EP. I didn't use them on Friday because I out of curiosity I wanted to see what it was like experiencing the whole thing full on but having done that I'm going to be smart about it next time I see them.

Admittedly I'm not a huge fan - though I do like loveless - but I don't get why playing white noise for 20 minutes is ground breaking and/or something anyone would like to attend who isn't a mbv fan?!

I wore earplugs for the white noise/holocaust bit for the second night I saw them. They made little or no difference! Looking forward to seeing people's reactions at EP...I can see it now,everyone within a 100 metre radius of the tent/stage going..'What the f**k is THAT??'

Hmmm. I think I'm going to retain judgement on this until EP, but the thought of 15 to 40 minutes of white noise feedback is a turn off.

Whats that band that played in Crawdaddy around Autumn 2006, that play bizarre music at such extreme levels that its supposed to induce bowel movements in its punters?!

I've got a couple of friends who love that s**t, they've obviously got something wrong with them.

As for MBV's "noise out"... they nicked it straight from Sonic Youth, who depending on their mood, can "noise out" quite a few times per gig. They also nicked the riff for "You Made Me Realise" from the Yuff's "Silver Rocket", but feck it, they're both class.
