Romance blossoms in Dublin's southside, but is there a little too much romance in this romantic comedy?
We meet a wide-ranging group of nice young folk, all with relationships that are either starting or ending. At times it's hard to keep track of who's doing what to whom.
It's one of those films that seems overstuffed with characters and incidents, but it does try - ever so hard - to get us involved in who's doing what to whom.
The ensemble playing is quite good, it has to be said, and southside Dublin looks good. But the script requires a good clear-out of characters and a tighter approach to storytelling.
It does show that the Irish industry is trying hard to make more mainstream films, and there is enough here to suggest that Gill and several of her cast will be heard from again.
Goldfish Memory isn't a bad film. It has its heart in the right place. It just needs to be pulled together a bit more.
Star Rating: 2/5.
