Ballroom of Romance presents.. Ballroom #75: Crëvecoeur (French widescreen multi-instrumentalists) with Si Schroeder Somadrone, Cian Nugent The Lower Deck €10, door 9pm Crëvecoeur Crëvecoeur is an unusual French trio formed in 2003. Initially formed by two young multi-instrumentalists playing guitars, percussions, harmonium, trumpets and various toy-instruments, Crëvecoeur were later joined by a further violin player/multi-instrumentalist. Their songs are mostly instrumental pieces, a tribute to the glorious days of soundtrack music, yet with a pop sensibility. Crëvecoeur have already played many shows, opening for such bands as Sophia (USA), Karate (Usa), Shannon Wright (USA), Dead Meadow(USA), and Audrey (Sweden), Souvaris (UK),D.A.A.U (Belg) or The Servant (UK), Do Make Say Think (Ca),The Brunettes (NZ), PercevalMusic (Fr). In 2005, their first single was released by the small independent label Euphrate Records. The first album, entitled «1» was released on March 2007 on Drella Records in collaboration with DSA; it features 10 songs recorded between their hometowns of Nancy and Paris. Crëvecoeur could be the result of the encounter between Calexico and Pascal Comelade, or Henry Mancini and The Black Heart Procession.... Live, Crëvecoeur use subtlety and a range of tones and images to create a unique atmosphere - every show is accompanied by live 8mm film projections. http://www.myspace.com/wearecrevecoeur Si Schroeder Si Schroeder is a six-foot hairy male who makes 'music'. This 'music' has generally sounded like the combined contents of his record collection (mostly classic sixties pop, scratchy old ethnic recordings and the odd bleep or two), on top of which he layers ruminative, whispered vocals about the tough times we all live in and go through. His adventures have lately brought him into the arms of Dublin tastemakers Foggy Notions (***** Best Album of 2006 for his debut COPING MECHANISMS); nomination for the 2nd Choice Music Awards (the Irish Mercurys); and National radio and TV appearances. An argumentative sophomore album is currently in the works. His current live shows attempt to find a bridge between live electronics, guitars, drums, percussion, and the combined singing of men, women, children and machines. In various guises Si Schroeder has blown the PA systems of Dublin, London's influential Kosmische club, PopKomm Berlin, EUROSONIC in Groningen, Oslo, New York's IntelFest, and Chicago. Expect toy pianos and toy planes, bleeps and beats (and bleats...) bells and chimes, drones and choirs... http://www.myspace.com/sischroeder Somadrone Incepted in 1995, Somadrone began as a project to document some home recordings from old tape machines and 4-track recorders. This was release in 1999 as a 10” single limited to 100 copies. The latter years involved playing, recording and touring in Europe and America with Redneck Manifesto, Connect Four Orchestra, Goodtime John and Jape. Instruments such as Vibraphone, Harp, Theremin, Indian Drone Machines and Analogue Synths feature on 2005’s “Fuzzing Away To A Whisper” released Sept 05 on Trust Me I’m a Theif records. These collections of recordings are 2 CDS from six years of producing. They range from electro-acoustic pieces to pop music and incorporate elements of early Kraftwerk, Broadcast, Brian Eno and Steve Reich. While pursuing a PhD in Music, Somadrone’s third album “Of Pattern and Purpose” was assembled. The first to incorporate vocal accompaniment, it is composed mostly of miniature symphonies and electronic interludes. http://www.myspace.com/iamsomadrone Cian Nugent Talented young guitar player Cian Nugent plays instrumental guitar music with many folk and experimental influences. His exploratory style of playing has earned him comparisons to Robbie Basho and John Fahey. Recently he has toured with Jozef VanWissen and James Blackshaw and will feature on an upcoming compilation from legendary folk label Tompkins Square. http://www.myspace.com/ciannugent
