Check out the article below. So Seamus Heaney digs Eminem's lyrics. I can see it now. Leaving Cert Higher Level English exam paper, paper II, Poetry section: "Eminem: friend or foe of the New Romanticism?" Or some sort of s**te. Can't be too far now can it? tobble Poet Heaney sings the praises of Eminem 30/06/2003 - 19:00:13 One of the world’s foremost poets today sang the praises of American rap star Eminem. Seamus Heaney, 64, said Eminem had “sent a voltage around a generation”. Mr Heaney was speaking prior to the start of the Prince of Wales’ Educational Summer School in Norwich, where he was a guest. He was asked by journalists whether there was a figure in popular culture who aroused interest in poetry and lyrics in the way that Bob Dylan and John Lennon did during the 1960s and 70s. Mr Heaney, former Professor of Poetry at Oxford University, said: “There is this guy Eminem. “He has created a sense of what is possible. “He has sent a voltage around a generation. “He has done this not just through his subversive attitude but also his verbal energy.” (Taken from online.ie - http://breakingnews.iol.ie/entertainment/story.asp?j=73736758&p=73737464)
