All depends. If an artist has the back catalogue and the stamina to hold an audience for three hours, then why not play for three hours?
Even for a band or artist on their first album, and hour is just too short. I remember Ryan Adams played for just over an hour in the Ambassador a few yeas ago. Despite putting on a good show and being well received, the atmosphere was a little cold walking out of the venue.
Yeah i agree.
Another thing that annoys me is bands playing encores for the sake of it. Fair eoungh if its a good gig and the crowd are really into it but i dont see the point in encores in run of the mill gigs.
Last time Ryan Adams played in the olympia, he said that he was gonna take a break for 5 minutes so people could get drinks and/or use bathrooms and that he was gonna play for another half and hour afterwards.
