Any chance of some unfawning opinionon Arcade Fire's gigs during the week. I was only present on the Tues night and 3 songs in, felt as if I was about to witness one of the best gigs I'd ever been to. But then..........it just sagged quite dramatically in the middle for me. Case in point - My Body Is A Cage - the ong doesn't work on the album and it didn't work in the live setting.
True the band generated quite a buzz but the songs in the middle let things down somewhat. Bloody excellent gig and all that but far from perfect.

Not a big Arcade Fire fan and didn't go to the gig but it seems to me everyone expects too much from them so nothing they do will live up to the hype!

I was at the gig on Tuesday Night aswell. For me it was just like you said at the end there - a Bloody excellent gig!
I must say I did get a bit distracted in the middle so I couldnt review it as totally amazing from start until finish but I will say that nothing really dissapointed me...
If anything, I wouldnt have had them open with 'Black Mirror', but thats their prerogative!
I dont agree at all about 'My Body is a cage', I think its a brilliant song. I think its the organ that creates a really post-apocalyptic feel (whatever that means )... And I thought they recreated it very well live.

I was there on Wednesday and the main problem I had was with the bloody cold! It took a while to heat up in the pit, I agree with the saggy middle idea, could've left Ocean of Noise out. They should mix songs of the two albums more instead of playing a good few from each in a row which makes it feel too much like a tracklisting rather than a gig.

Hmmm....I thought, given the visual backdrop at the beginning, that they could have started with 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' and it still would have been impressive. A flaccid middle part undoubtedly took away from what was otherwise a quality show.

    I'm inclined to agree Garrett.

I went on Tuesday and got into the pit, which always helps a gig. Firstly losing a fantastic spot in the centre right at the barrier after being forced to move to avoid a sexual harasser who just wanted to get up front (grr), I started the gig nicely pissed off! The gig itself cheered me up though - not because it was incredibly fantastic, but because I've never seen a band (there was ten of them for god's sake!!) have so much fun on stage. It was hard not to enjoy it. It was good, enjoyable but nothing groundbreaking. Highpoint was definitely that lead-up into PowerOut. Lowpoint was My Body Was A Cage, and most of the songs from the second album in general. If anything this gig just proved how much better the songs on the first album were, even taking into account their cultish popularity which meant the crowd were more into them.

ok, i'm going to be an arse here and say that i've never been to an arcade fire gig since electric picnic because that was just so perfect and such perfect timing... of course, they only played for 50 minutes and could afford to open with 'wake up' and had no sag in the middle...

...so, it begs the question... are gigs too long?.... often, i prefer the act to play for no more than an hour and to go out in to the cold having been left wanting more....

depends on the type of music of course...

I kinda agree and disagree, it all depends on the gig though. One thing i absolutely hate is the fact that every gig now has an encore.
I dont mind encores if its a great gig and deserved but dont see the point in having an encore for the sake of it!!
