So I have this friend and she told me this story/rumour. I dont believe it at all for a number of reasons which I'll get into but it nags at me. The problem is that she is normally a reasonable person and she is so insistent in a laid back, I know better type of way, that I'm left wondering if anone else has ever heard this story. The story is that The Police actually recorded Zenyatta Mondatta in Ireland and not in the Netherlands and that an Irish producer produced it, not Nigel Gray. This story fails for numerous reasons besides just the lack of evidence that it could be true. In particular, the Police DVD- Everybody Stares- actually has a scene that is ("apparently") in the studio during the recording Of Zenyatta and Nigel Gray is there while Sting and Andy are playing. what i'm wondering is if anyone else has ever heard this story before. Please dont shun me for this post I know its ridiculous, but then I hesitate as I write that so I'm looking for a bit of closure I suppose. So has anyone ever heard that story? Where would it have come from? Cheers, its been bugging me. I'm a huge Police fan and the idea that someone is claiming to have produced that album (but couldn't ever say so for contractual reasons) is plain crap!?

Might well be true boxstar. When the Police started to make it big in the early 80's they became tax exiles. Andy moved to rural Cork and Sting found a place in Donegal, though I don't think he was there for long. I don't know about Zneyetti Mon....whatever you call it, but at the very least Andy recorded alot of demos at his home studio during this time. Incidently he hated Ireland. I just finished reading his auto-biog One Train Later (highly recommended by the way) and the way he describes early 80's Cork, he might as well be talking about Royston Vasey.

Cork.. lovely county, but f**k me, the city is seriously grim... I wasn't there in the 80s, but was there around 1995 & it was even grimmer - can't say I blame Mr. Summers

'Early eighties Cork'. Now that would put a shudder down the spine of the most fearless of men. Is there anything worse? 'Early eighties Limerick?' Poor old Andy. He doesn't hate Ireland now, he's a regular visitor but Ryan Tubridy asked him about that piece in the book on 'Tubridy Tonight', it was funny watching him squirm. Yes, Cork and Kerry region is probably one of the most beautiful places in the world but Cork city itself is a dump, went down for the first time about 6 years ago. Grim, indeed.
