Went on Saturday,

saw Cats on Fire........great band, very smiths.....

Channel One....excellent as always..fist time in tripod/old red box...decent venue

Angel Pier...not as good this year as last...some stand out tunes though....

The Chicks...good laugh...they were ok..first time seeing them....

Thought the venue was v good, preferred it last year, more of a buzz going from place to place

Thought the venue was good (no more wandering around town), beer choice was bad because I don't like Bud, but the atmosphere was good, loads of fun.

Super Extra Bonus Party, Fight Like Apes, Ham Sandwich and Betamax Format were my highlights.

Great weekend. Didn't make it last night because I was wrecked, but whaddyagonnado.

A bit of a pain to be honest. Went along on Saturday night to try and see Dark Room Notes, but by the time I got to where they were playing (Lennon Lounge) the doors had been shut and they weren't letting anybody else in. I queued on the stairs with about 30 other people for a while, but no joy getting in. What were the organisers thinking putting them on a) at 9.00 and b) in such a crappy little room? Especially when there was such drivel in some of the bigger rooms. I ended up going to see Colenso Parade down the corridor who had about 10 people watching them in a room 3 times the size.

For me the highlight was catching the Scandinavian Bands - I enjoyed The Concretes and Marybell Katastrophe, so will try and have a listen to some of the others on myspace. I think I've seen nearly all the Irish bands before in some guise or another.

Muzak, how did you 'try' and go to see Dark Room Notes when you are obviously in the band? See all previous posts you have made about their up and coming gigs and gushing praise for them and I think you'll see what I mean! Shame

That song they always play on Phantom is a hell of a song. Synths appear to be the way forward for Irish inide bands right now (them, Fight Like Apes, Hooray For Humans)

I hate to break it to you but the first time I saw the band was in May this year when they opened for Au Revoire Simone. You'll find a gushing review of that gig on this site written by "idiot kid" who is presumably also a member? From that point I went to see them at a few other gigs because, yes - I think they are excellent. If you read through my posts you'll also see I like Dry County, Channel 1, Halves, Hybrasil and a few others - I suppose because they have a vaguely similar sound. I've mentioned them a few times in the 'about last night's gig' forum, as I was at 'last night's gig'. Is this an issue?

Have a trawl through Cluas and you'll find plenty of other users 'gushing' praise on them going back a few years, so I'm late to the party.

I've been following their progress (because I'm interested), and I'm far from the only one lavishing praise on them - for instance the thing in The Star about hwch that was free at the venue mentioned them as 'ones to watch', which is presumably why their gig was so busy?

If you're a disgruntled member of another band I didn't watch then I apologise. Tell me who they are and I'll certainly come down and have a look at your next gig.

Only went on the Saturday myself. Didn't get into see DRN, went across to Tupelo Honeys and wasn't that impressed with them. Then on to Aleko, best gig to date for them. Pity it's their last, hopefully they'll come to their sences and do some more gigs in the future. Only caught the end of Fifteen Minutes but they seemed ok. Finally Distractors, plagued a bit by sound but still amazing, can't wait to hear more from these!

I was there all weekend, it was great. Loved the new static location, although I presumed I would miss the running around time there was still plenty of running to do. Got there late enough on Friday, quite enjoyed Dirty Epics set, caught a bit of the Jimmy Cake but wasn't in the mood, The Minutes were pretty good but nothing too fantastic. Best band of the night and subsequently the weekend, was Oh No Ono. What the f**k was that about?! But LOVED it. Great Danes.

Saturday flitted about between Ham Sandwich, Alphastates, Dark Room Notes (lied about my best friend being in the band and he'd kill me if I missed it, 3 of us let in back door!). The next while is a blur, but I saw some Twinkranes, Chicks & Distractors. All good if not outstanding.

Sunday chilled out at Jenny Lindfors, couldn't get in to see The Chapters, saw The Radio but damn missed Dry County, got a bit bored at Neosupervital, Evil Harrisons were running too late so caught Cathy Davey instead, saw Queen Kong singer's tits which was unexpected, then finished up at Jape. Never got as far as The Odeon all weekend long! Great weekend, roll on next year. No more Budweiser though, please.

A good weekend - even if the irregularity of Dublin Buses meant I missed the first and last bands most nights.

Anyone see The New Violators? Absolutely brilliant show!

I went along for the Sunday night. I hardly know any Dublin bands at the moment so I was preparing myself for a lot of new stuff.
Started off upstairs in the Odean with My Brother Woody. They weren't bad. Jangly melodic power-pop. Nice way to ease into the night, but they were a little rigid live. The second guitarist could have done a bit more too.

Went to the POD then, caught the end of some metal band (cowboy hat and dreads) in Tripod. Didn't catch their name but was impressed. It was like a beer soaked punch in the face after the previous band. I spent most of the rest of the night in the lounge in the back. I have to say, I wasn't really blown away by anyone but I did like Offshore. They made great use of the twin-guitar thing and the lead singer has a belter of a voice.

Cathey Davey was... er, professional.
NeoSupervital were super-stylish and dull at the same time.
Jape was good but I was knackered by the end. Too much information.

A good night though, I've never been to anything like that before.

Quick tip for next year. Go into the Odean, get your proper booze and then sneak it back into the Pod.

That was Ilya K. Only caught the end of that, but it did look like a great gig.

Odeon was terrible - very poor set-up for the larger bands, as the amps were behind the mics and were feeding back like crazy.

Didn't get to Hard Working Class as I went to Poland but by all accounts (okay three people I've talked to) it was very underwhelming.
