hey ritzy, do you even know who the dj's were? how does a band get a showcase for Mr Alan Magee - arranged by Mr BP Fallon? you just dont get that opportunity unless you are damn good... the lads were up for it, but sadly the venue wasn't... the lack of a soundcheck severely hampered things - i know how those songs were meant to sound and the first 3 didnt do the band justice - vinny duggan's guitar sounded like it had a cold and the vocal levels were all over the place... and yes! different music coming through the monitors! j a y s u s ! to be fair, things improved midset but the stuttering start interrupted the furious flow that accompanies things gigs... vocalist neil moore did what he could to bring it up and they really cooked at the end with my favourite "live a lie"... as for the glass-throwers at the end - that was disgraceful, at least one of them glasses had some beer left in it.... www.soundweb.ie

I think I was right in an earlier thread about how shit Whelans is! I've been to loads of gigs there, the sound can be great but when the band is one that is just starting out they just dont put the effort into it. I've seen the Things loads of times, in many different venues and have never been disappointed by their performances (quite the opposite). They always go down a storm, leaving the crowd begging for more, so I think it can be said that the Whelans sound was the problem. Anyone in a band should realise and empathise with how off-putting it is on stage when shit like that happens. They did a great job and carried themselves with great decorum. I'm not trying to preach to the unconverted here but just dont blame a band for a venue's mistake! As for a twenty minute plus wait at the bar and a ten-minute wait at the toilets...get it sorted Whelans! Ever here of Health and Safety!

John, I didn't post the original message - I was merely highlighting the fact that bands will get bad press, and not everyone will like them, despite what many people on this board think (The Things, Listo, and various other foot-starers that are championed on this board). I've gigged in Whelans twice now and bothe times got a 5 minute soundcheck, and both times we sounded fine. I wasn't blaming the band - merely pointing out that a crappy attitude on stage gets you nowhere with soundmen in venues. I've heard the Things, and I like them, but there attitude does leave a lot to be desired. They've done nothing yet, so maybe it's time to stop acting like they have!!
