Choice Cuts Presents Poets Of Rhythm Whelans of Wexford St Thursday 7th June Tickets €12/€15 on sale www.tickets.ie www.ticketmaster.ie All City Records, Big Brother, City Discs, Sound Cellar & Road Records The Poets Of Rhythm are a superb funk/soul/r&b group out of Germany (check the track-download above for a sample). They have released numerous 45's and LP's under various alias', such as The Whitefield Brothers, The Malcouns, Syrup, The Soul-Saints Orchestra, Bo Baral and The Excursionists, Bus People Express and many others. The Poets of Rhythm are an enigma to say the least. Heralded by DJ Shadow as his favorite band to see live, he signed them immediately to Quannum in the late 1990's. After planting the seeds of their extensive sound experiments while travelling all over Europe over the last 2 years, the Poets are heading back your direction to present their own blend of African, Middle Eastern and Asian rhythms and scales combined with a soulful Funk and Jazz heritage on which their reputation was built over the last 15 years. Brought to life in the early 90´s, the Poets Of Rhythm made a remarkable impact on the current worldwide Deep Funk scene with their influential album releases Practice What You Preach (just re-issued on Gabriel Roth´s Daptone label out of New York) and Discern/Define (a Quannum/Ninja Tune cooperation), which brought them into the ears of a whole new audience with its more experimental and psychedelic sound. It is a testament to The Poets' music to have the likes of Cold Cut's label And Dj Shadow's imprint backing their work. Along with Daptone head honcho Gabe Roth of Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings fame. 'An exceptional band to see live, they will make all musicians envious, the best there is' (Questlove) 'Deep as the ocean-floor, The Poets set new standards in music and are stunning live '(Gilles Peterson) 'Always ahead of the pack' (Daptone Records) If you are not familiar with this great band, pls check out www.choicecutsonline.com for their music and more information.
