Thought they were great in Whelans last night - anybody else head along? A really fun show, and they seemed genuinely delighted with the response they were getting.. I've checked out some of their recorded work and thought it was interesting but patchy, came across much better in a live setting. Cap Pas Cap were okay, I remember being really impressed by them a few months back but they seemed a little repetitive last night. Didn't catch the name of the first support act, reasonable hi-energy synth-pop stuff with the singer looking like he was relaxing after a hard day selling secondhand cars or something..

I thought it was a nice show too, eventhough I always think it is a bit funny to overview people being drunk in public (Annie Hart). Or maybe she wasn't, but I just feelt it took focus away from their music. But it was fun:-) The best thing is that I found another clip where she is headbaning as well from New York City's Webster Hall. Such a little tiny girl and all that energy - that is fantastic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPBLNen9Gzk I must say that I really liked Cap Pas Cap. Didn't see them before, but i liked the energy on stage. Always nice to be surprised and suddenly discover new music.

I really liked the first band who were called Dark Room Notes, I don't know if I'd describe them as hi-energy synth pop though - a lot of the stuff they did was pretty heavy. I checked out their myspace and their single is pretty good. To be honest I was a little disappointed with Cap Pas Cap, they rely too heavily on their percussion (cow bell) and are a bit of a one trick pony, I'm suprised at how average they were given all the hype around them. ARS were good fun, lots of energy in the performance. Albeit slightly drunk energy.

Heh, were the Au Revoir Simone girls drunk? I got the impression it was just enthusiasm, I found some live clips and they seem to act like that at all their shows. The girl with the glasses certainly could headbang, for a keyboard player.. Thought it was funny that some chancer had bought her a drink before she'd made it halfway to the back of the venue :-) Maybe I didn't describe the first band quite right, I guess it was more of a garage rock\synths hybrid. I wouldn't give up on Cap Pas Cap just based on that gig, their EP is pretty good and I've definately seen them do better shows than that. Supposed to have a full album coming later this year so we'll see if they have a bit more variety to them than they were showing last night.

I didn't think much of Au Revoir Simone at all. It all just started to sound the same after a while. And as for Cap Pas Cap, well the less said the better. Dark Room Notes were excellent though, stole the show in my opinion. They're playing the Sugar Club on 3 June (think it's to launch the single) so I'll head to that to catch a full set.

I thought it was a really good gig and they had a lot more peronality then I had expected of them. I'd definately go to see them again.
I'm almost positive that they weren't drunk on stage.
