A friend loaned me this. He bought it after seeing her in Whelans recently. It's a very impressive piece of work, well worth a listen. Her voice is great and the phrasing is reminiscent of Jeff Buckley at times. But it's nice to hear his influence somewhere else than just high-pitched male singer songwriters. I had heard she plays in Sufjan Stevens backing band but her own music is nothing like that. It's hard to pin down, definitely sounds like a band rather than just a singer songwriter with bass and drums added. Kind of angular guitar, lots of strings, pretty intense listening, perhaps quite melancholic in tone overall but not afraid to rock, doesn't sound too much like anything I can think of, you'll just have to check it out for yourself. Maybe someone else who's heard it can do a better job describing it.
