Hi all, Everyone knows the story about REM's Peter Buck being cleared of air-raid charges, with Michael Stipe and Bono testifying on his behalf and everything, what I'd like to ask is, was he innocent or not? Personally, I believe the whole thing was a publicity stunt as his arrest was just weeks before "Reveal's" release, and his court hearings were held at times when he was duetting with artists in the UK. Just another cheesy story in rock n' roll, if you ask me Q

whether he's guilty or not I really dislike the way that people who know very little about a court case think that they can make a more accurate judgement of someone's innocence/guilt than a jury who sits day after day listening to all sides of all arguments. I don't mean you, Q2, but the public in general - take the OJ Simpson case, for example, so many people who watched the story for 2 minutes on the news every day were 100% sure of his guilt, yet the jury proved otherwise. As for Buck's court cases coinciding with his trip to England, it does sometimes seem like celebraties / "important" people can pull strings with regard to the law when they need to. Like Liam Lalor deciding he would delay his prison sentence until after he had a trip to New York... If anything, Michael Stipe's announcement of his homosexuality when Reveal was released was a sad publicity stunt clearly designed to sell a few more cds

I was one of those sad gits that watched the whole OJ trial and I am in no doubt that fu*ker was guilty! As for Stipey (aka God)... publicity stunt? I don't think so, everybody knows that outing yourself means your record sales are going to take a hit... George Michael being the only exception to the rule. It's not a tumor

Y'know I'm actually a die-hard REM fan myself and I fail to see the need for such a talented & experienced band to resort to publicity to sell records at all. Frankly, the whole court case & homosexuality thing is more food for thought than anything else. Still, it's not just REM I'm talking about, Bad Boy Liam Gallagher is back in the news again for fighting bouncers at London's Met Club......on the eve of the release of Oasis' new single (which is shite by the way). I just find it a bit more than coincidental that these rock stars are always in the news in the midst of new releases. Forgive me if I'm being paranoid. Q
