What do you reckon was the best song of 2006? Can be a single or an album track or an unreleased demo or some random MP3 you found, doesn't matter. Rather than the usual drill of starting a thread like this by posting what I reckon is cool, I just wanna know what you all think and why. You can only pick one track though. No "honorable" mentions. Nail your colors to the mast dammit!

Tough one, here's my short list

'Lady of the Sea' Seth Lakeman (a sunken ship inspired this mystical song)
'Rehab' Amy Winehouse (I'd love to go on the lash with her...and Charlotte Church)
'People Get Ready'(Live, Holland) The Frames (Glen's Noughties update of a gospel classic via The Velvet Underground)
'Stand in Silence' And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead (they f*ckin' rock man)

    and the winner is...

Muse's "Starlight" would be mine for 2006, cracking tune..

...sorry but I also have to mention Kopeks' song "Stop" that was buzzing around cpu.ie for a while last year.. think it was a demo but it's a catchy little tune!

The Killers - When You Were Young
    Delorentos - The Rules
Hot Chip - Over and Over
Peter Bjorn John - Young Folks
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Cheated Heart

It would have to be any of the following by Sunset Rubdown:

    Snakes Got a Leg
    Stadiums and Shrines 2
    Swimming
    Us one's in between

A notable absence from the album of the year as well!

Wasn't exactly blown away by Sunset Rubdown but I know how you feel, and I was one of the people who voted in the Cluas writers albums of the year. A lot of my faves didn't make it in either, but that's just the way polls go sometimes. My favourite Album this year was "Orchestra of Bubbles" by Ellen Allien & Apparat, but no-one else liked it. Everybody maybe 2-3 albums that they liked and other writers liked too, but their absolute favorite probably doesn't make it because it only appeals to them, and thats how the music scene has sort of gone on a larger scale too. Pop(ular) music really is dead for the moment, music is very fractured these days, there's no real consensus, very little that you could say almost everyone listens to. No. 1 singles are no longer truly massive in sales.

OK, we've only had about three people pick their fave tune on this thread so far but it's interesting that no-one has agreed on what the single best tune of the year is?

I think it's gotta be Peter Bjorn and John - Young Folks.

    Guillemots - Train To Brazil
Killers - Can You Read My Mind
