From Los Angeles’ eastside emo rock underground, Robbie moved to Ireland after the loss of his partner to a religious order. A year of solitude (Robbie holed up in a cottage in Wexford), a rented piano, a borrowed guitar and a good deal of soul searching led to Mighty Quiet, a document of a powerful year spent in silence. The full-length CD is due for release in January 2007.

“You’ll be drawn in by the pop hooks, but you’ll wear this record out because these songs seep into the soul. McDonald writes achingly beautiful pop gems with hooks that simply won’t let go.” ––Ticketmaster’s W’end 411

“Robbie McDonald, US born of Irish parents and now residing in Ireland, has his debut solo album out in January. It promises to be an impressive work with McDonald’s classy voice applied to an intelligent cycle of songs about the break-up of a gay relationship and its heart-breaking aftermath. The slightly jaunty ‘Blood in Ice Cream’ offers optimism in the face of disappointment, with McDonald’s winsome harmonised vocals adding serious depths to a catchy song. ‘Comic Book Hero’ is more introspective and moody, with some fine piano under a brooding vocal, while ‘Your Clouds’ opens with a nagging keyboard riff that stays in your head forever. All very stimulating stuff that guarantees at least one decent Irish album next year.” ––Hot Press

“McDonald is a consummate songwriter with a talented band who never let their obvious musicianship get in the way of their expression, and he deserves your attention.” ––Hot Press (Pick of the Fortnight)

“This is raw, honest, heart-rending songwriting from a singer who makes no apologies for being himself. The lyrics have a poetic quality and the piano playing is haunting. This music has a timeless, enduring quality to it. It won't be forgotten in a hurry; in fact, you might not be able to shake it. It's that haunting, that spellbinding. ––South East Voice
