MSTRKRFT (DFA 1979) | ALEKO | JON AVERILL Temple Bar Music Centre. Friday 8 December Rising out of the ashes of the much loved and recently defunct rock act DFA 1979, Jesse Keeler and Al-P's new project; MSTRKRFT (pronounced 'master craft) are due to return to Dublin with a bang on Friday 8 December. For this new project guitars are lower in the mix than the DFA 1979 onslaught! Drum machines provide the rhythms, keyboards color in the rest. Every vocal is slathered in vocoder and the early days Daft Punk are more than a small influence to these guys. One of the most suprising things about MSTRKRFT is their rapid rise to fame, having formed only a year ago they have gone on to win praise and support from DJs in many different genres. With the recent announcement that DFA 1979 have have ceased recording many fans will be looking in MSTRKRFTs direction to provide their dancefloor rock thrills that they deliver so well. Bringing a live element to the show are Aleko who merge the sound of the club with the sound of the sweaty underground venue, fusing pounding guitars and bass with scattergun drum machine rhythms and pulsating synth grooves. Recent shows include support to Cut Copy, The Sunshine Underground and Shit Robot, as well as a mainstage appearence at this years HI-FI Festival. The band also supported Asian Dub Foundation on the Irish leg of their european tour. Having completed early studio demos with producer Marc Carolan (The Thrills, Muse, The Cure) at the beginning of the year, they are looking forward to this live date before getting back into the studio to start work on their EP set for release early 2007. Jon Averill, who once again provides support for MSTRKRFT, has really broken through as a DJ in 2006, ably supporting stars of the genre such as Justice, Tiga, The Hacker, DJ Sneak, Damian Lazarus and Simian Mobile Disco already this year. Doors 10.00pm, Tickets 18eu from City Discs, Temple Bar & at the door on the night.
