Six years or so on www.muse.ie is coming back. And their new MD sees their "website as being like a cross between Cluas and NME.com..." Thursday, November 23 2006 by Charlie Taylor It's not just boybands such as Take That making comebacks this year, Muse.ie, the music website formerly owned by Eircom offshoot Rondomondo is re-launching next month. The website, which first launched in 1997, was one of Ireland's most beloved portals serving up reviews, features and listings on every possible music genre to internet users. Edited by Irish Times journalist Jim Carroll, Muse launched the careers of a number of the country's leading music writers including Leagues O'Toole. However, the site, which was owned by Eircom's online publishing arm, Rondomondo, joined its sibling in the digital dustbin when the incumbent closed down the division in 2001 after the dotcom crash. The website is to return in a new guise after internet entrepreneur Hugh Durkin purchased the web address via a new company called Mediaspace. Durkin is managing director of the digital publishing house, Comado, which has built up an impressive portfolio of websites over the past few years including WeddingsIreland.com and Fashion.ie. Durkin told ENN that the website, which is due to go live in mid-December, will be aimed at 16-40 year old music fans looking for a range of exclusive content such as features, reviews and more. "We're going to have a number of contributors providing content for the site and we're planning on having the same type of content that Muse had before. In addition we want to focus on building up the community end of it so that users will be generating content and making the space their own," said Durkin. "Bands will be able to upload music onto the site and we're also intending to have webcasts and podcasts. We've developed our own content management framework in-house over the past couple of months, which we have been using for another site of ours called Novadance.com. This allows DJs to record their own shows and upload them to the site, among other things." "We envisage the website as being like a cross between Cluas and NME.com and that there will be plenty of of opportunities for bands, aspiring journalists and music fanatics to get involved," he added.
