What is people's opinion on the best venue in Dublin.
I'm talking about medium sized venues excluding Vicar/Ambasaddor/Olympia.
Crawdaddy? Whelans?
What do people think of Radio City?
From a band's perspective which venue has the best sound?

Radio City is ok yea. Played a gig there a few months ago. Better now than it was bak in the day for sure!
I really like the sound in Voodoo – on stage and off it seems to always be pretty f**king good. Crawdaddy is ok too… from a band prespective it can vary tho. Played there a few months back and we walked off the stage thinking we’d played the s**test gig ever cause we could hear f**k all on stage… but apparently down on the floor it was great. I like playing it all the same tho…. It’s a nice little venue.

Was kinda put off Radio City a few months ago when I was in Isacc Butt's trying to have a quiet Saturday evening drink after a particularly torrid previous night and all I could hear was the sound of screaming teenage girls in Radio City, wrecking my already wrecked head
No idea what gimp was playing in there that evening but since then I shudder whenever anyone mentions the place <shudders again>

Absolutely. It's fine for a drink at 2am but other than that.

Tis a bit off the beaten track alright, but that part of the city is definitely on the up with Sin é and Dice Bar nearby
Most of the pubs around there serve a nice pint too
It's not far from the Luas either so handy for anyone living along the Red Line (i.e. me)

One very satisfying thing I've noticed recently is that most gig tickets I've been buying have been for Whelans, Crawdaddy, Sugar Club, Olympia and Vicar St. Not one Village gig among 'em, whoo hoo.... !!! If I never have to go back to that sh1thole it'll be too soon...

I like Crawdaddy.
But what we really need in Dublin is a bunch of cheap dive bars. I don't see why every place that opens / is refurbished needs a million pumped into it to exist. The only thing you need is a good soundsystem, interesting music / bands, cheap alcohol and nice people.

I like Radio City and have seen a few really good gigs there.
Anyone see the Redneck Manifesto play there? It was rockin. Also saw The Tom Waits Tribute band Carnival Saloon play there with Juliet Turner and there was a really nice caberet vibe in the place and the sound was ace.
