Here's a dumb question coz there's no work going for me at the mo and I'm bored off my proverbial stones, if your heartbeat could be any bass line which would it be? For some reason I keep thinking of Stars and Sons by Broken Social Scene, though Close to me by the Cure ranks up highly. I think the deterioration of my mind has begun...

Elmo, thats gotta qualify as the weirdest thread EVER (a strong contender at least). Wouldn't it kinda be annoying when you're trying to listen to other music? Plus if you picked the wrong rhythm for your hearbeat, would your brain get enough oxygen (aha, mental deterioration, another mystery solved)
On a related point, I wonder how our physiology affects what music we enjoy and what we create. Apparently I have an irregular hearbeat (don't worry, it's perfectly OK, I won't die or anything), does this mean I'd make a rubbish drummer?

Yeah i was thinking what would happen if someone picked a drum and bass beat for one. I have no idea where I came up with that though I'm sure boredom will drive to coming up with weirder stuff. I'll just try to subsist if possible.
PS- having longer fingers helps with piano for increased range me thinks at least it did for Rachmaninov

two random related things...
...if you consistently listen to music with a large amount of beats per minute, it can have an adverse affect on your own heartbeat and therefore your state of mind.... suddenly all the trouble at oxegen becomes clearer...
...secondly, referring to a point above, a drummer friend of mine sat his driving test 23 times before passing (obviously this was in the UK - in ireland, he'd be an OAP before he managed to get 23 driving test dates)... he swore he kept failing because he had twitchy feet from drumming... kept on kangarooing the car... bass-hihat-bass,bass-hihat... gas-clutch-gas,gas-clutch...

woah! I wonder how that would look in real life!
Mine would have to be Digital by Joy Division
Or Evil by Interpol - 2 of my favorite bass lines ever

Got there before me Benni, most of the bass lines on 'Antics' are top class but the intro to 'Evil' is top quality.

alright then,
i'm liking benni's shout out...
but surely digital and say, magic mountain by lightning bolt would drive you crazy - you'd be a wreck at the end of each day - basslines for frenzied living
"day in, day out, day in, day out, DAY IN, DAY OUUUUT!"

Ohhh nice question. It's always simple, lust driven basslines that do it for me....
The Cure - Love Song
New Order - Someone Like You
White Rose Movement - Love is a Number
Air - Les Professionnels
Peaches - Operate
David Bowie - China Girl or Let's Dance
Roxy Music - The Thrill of it All
ohh and of course, the sauciest bassline ever written...Nick Cave's 'Stagger Lee'!!
I definitely believe that music has a physiological effect on people - you can cheer yourself up or settle down into melancholy with ease with the right song. But here's another question....can you seduce someone with music and if so (and you can only choose one track)...what would it be?

I'm a very busy woman Palace
Add to that list - Heroes by David Bowie - lovely little rolls in that tune!

didn't help that he was steering using sticks. *BADDUM THISH*
On the Interpol things, Untitled, it's so irregular I'd be interested to know how long my heart would go until it exploded.

Oooh! That be the million dollar question Dromed! And indeed if there was a track with proven seductive track record if you will (ahhaaa) – it would be the greatest successful record of all time and there would probably never be another number one single again!
Theres a few sleazy masterpieces out there alright tho! Clean and Behind the Wheel by Depeche Mode are great for that!

Rag Mama Rag by the Band. the bassline is acutally played on a tuba, but whoever said a basslines needs to be on a bass.
Or Paul McCartney's bassline on Dear Prudence
