Anyone else besides Gar catch it?
Have to say I was pretty impressed, the frantic choas that was somewhat missing from the album was there in abundance but all in all it falls into the good but not great category.

Sorry Norman!...
What a gig....Ive never seen an tambourine take such a beating on stage.
Bit of a slow start but then once they got going!!..
They really seemed to enjoy the gig and the crowd were going nuts. Some of the songs off the album really came off so much better live.
Excellent stuff

polar disagreement here... really enjoyed the gig, some songs came across very well and 'twas good to see another energetic band on stage...
...but i actually felt that some of the songs were missing something that came across on the album, the intense emotional build up side of things...
...also, i felt the crowd were far from nuts... more subdued than i expected

i thoroughly enjoyed the gig but did feel that some of the tracks were given more of a 'strokes' treatment live and failed to emulate their recorded genius.....just a wee bit and only in places!
dinner bells was certainly my highlight

Yeah, I suppose the crowd itself didnt go nuts until they had walked off at the end...during the songs themselves it was subdued enough alright.

Think the crowd didn't go wild because it was a Sunday, and most people looked pretty jaded after the w/e. I thought that Spencer Krug's vocals weren't on form but the band did apologize for being a bit drunk. Still a cracking gig though and great to see an act involve so many different instruments, tempos and styles into their set.

By the way ... and the award for most inappropriate opening act in history goes to The Struts. By no means a bad band but shouldn't have been opening for someone that sounds like Wolf Parade.

I'm glad someone else feels the same way about the support act. They were pretty accomplished in their own way, but were completely out of place. Regarding Wolf Parade, I was slightly disappointed but only because I enjoyed Apologies... so much. While their messiness and merriness made for a good spectacle, some of the songs were a disappointment.

Regarding The Struts.
Who did you think was the better singer. Personally I thought the guy with the red tShirt was much better. He had a good voice. Cant say I thought much of the songs when sung by the blond haired guy. Too many harmonies for my liking.

I'm afraid I didn't pay enough attention to have an opinion. I was too impatient for the main attraction. From what I remember, they had the makings some of some nice melodies, but didn't follow through, so to speak.

I'd agree with that, his was stronger in general, funnyish too. If I was booking the Coral they'd be the first band I'd thinking of offering a support slot to but like I said, completely wrong for last night.
Other bizarre opening/headliner combos that I'm aware of:
Jose Gonzalez / Buck 65
Bell X1 / Bon Jovi
Ham Sandwich / White Snake

Thanks Klootfan, always read the discussions, just plucked up the courage to join in today!
'Untie Manhattan' is from the National's song lit up - 'I try and untie manhattan', so I can't take credit for it. However, their Gig in Whelans will be something I will remember for a long long long time.

Hello. First time poster.
Yes, i concur. The National in Whelan's were bloody amazing. One of those nights in Whelan's that reinforce it as one of my fave Dublin venues. Had a little fear that perhaps it might have been moved to The Village (God! I hate that place even though so many super bands play there. Couldn't they have designed it a bit better a few years ago before it opened?)
Didn't get to see Wolf Parade or Sons and Daughters at the weekend. Looking forward to Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! in February already.
