Good article but can't see someone writing as detailed an article about The Bravery this time next year. They're from New York right? What other bands/artists are based in New York as a matter of interest?

A couple of others: Sonic Youth LCD Soundsystem Out Hud Yeah Yeah Yeahs The Beastie Boys Black Dice Yo La Tengo De La Soul New York has always had great bands/artists in the past too The Velvet Underground, New York Dolls, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious 5, Cool Herc, Talking heads, Blondie, Television, The Ramones, Luscious Jackson etc. Its probably just the nature of such a large city with a diverse range of people and cultures.

Regarding 'contemporary indie', The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are probably the best NYC rock band around. The Rapture are second on that list. Third would be The Secret Machines. Fourth would be Le Tigre Fifth: LCD Soundsystem I don't really care for The Walkmen, but I'll tell ye something 'The Rat' by The Walkmen is probably one of the best songs last year. I didn't know Ambulance Ltd were from NYC - they are pretty good too. Interpol's first album is a very NYC one to pick up I suppose. The weird thing is, everyone has been going on about 'the new york scene' and 'the new york sound' since the Strokes came out. I think The Strokes are meant to typify this 'scene', but fortunately, most of the bands to come out of this 'scene' since the Strokes are all very different. Which, I guess, is deliciously New York. If you're looking for an NYC compilation CD, this one, 'Yes New York', from Vice Recordings is pretty hot. http://vice-recordings.com/yes/index.php
