Ok, I'm being lazy, the question is posed in the Telegraph's Music Thursday section today. With regard to the new albums, whaddya all think ?

Haven't heard either album other than the singles, but I'd spend money on Coldplay a lot quicker. Oasis's 15 minutes were up years ago. You can say what you like about Coldplay but at least they still have ambitions to make good music, whereas Oasis are still trotting out the same old turgid s*ite.

well having only heard the singles myself I can hardley comment, but on the face of it I am yet to see a less than very favourable review anywhere for the Oasis album, even Rolling Stone gave it a good write up I believe. Strange thing about this whole debate is that Oasis have been critisised for not changing their sound, but to my humble ears it almost seems that every Coldplay record Ive heard so far up to an including the new single seem to have a very simular sound to them, not something that would ever worry me greatly cause I believe good music is good music. Just a thought...

This months Uncut gave it 2 out of 5. It is less than favourable.

They're both sh*t. Coldplay vs Oasis, Busted vs McFly, what does it matter. Surely there's better bands to be talking about.

per todays irish times, the coldplay gig is stiffing so it seems ireland has decided that yes, it's Oasis

The new Oasis single is terrible, terrible stuff. It wouldn't have made a B-side in their first 5,6 years - as their B-sides compilation demonstrates. It's good to hear Martin's distinctive voice on 'Speed of Sound' but the tune itself is far from great, with its 'Clocks'-like piano and U2-like guitar. The chorus tries to soar but to these ears sounds perfunctory and lacks the joy or pathos that Martin does so well. So I'm not too excited about the new album. To answer the question: Coldplay - very talented act but when they stop short of greatness, it's very obvious

Also, Coldplay play on June 22 - 2 days before U2's 3 night stand at Croker. Might have a lot to with it.

Theres always a problem with questions like this on this board. Just because both are mainstream they don't get the proper look in they deserve. I like Oasis and will be going to their gig; I like some Coldplay. Neither are as 'underground' as say Postal Service for example but give them a chance. If you just dont like them thats fine. Both their new singles are good I think. I think that the Daily Telegraph is just trying to big up the English music scene with their article.
