The Grates Biog-The Brisbane trio's corker of a debut album 'Gravity Won't Get You High, is a slice of guitar pop mayhem and is out now. The album was recorded in Chicago with producer Brian Deck (Modest Mouse/Secret Machines) and mixed by Peter Katis (Interpol/Mercury Rev). Their new single, 'Science is Golden', is set for release in Ireland October 27th.
With a real excitable punk pop sound, the three-piece have been tagged as the next big thing. This tantalizing two girl, one boy guitar pop trio are a huge breath of fresh air to the Irish music scene, a much needed ray of sunshine.Their lo-fi, hyper-spazzy songs are totally unique and as a band they count the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the Ramones among their influences.
With incredibly named, attired and vocally blessed front woman Patience Hodgson, The Grates have a star in the making at their helm. With the band's tremendous energy, their gigs take on the atmosphere of a huge party, with the band's own enjoyment and sense of fun entirely infectious to one and all. This year, things have gone a bit mad. They've supported the Go Team in the USA and in the UK, jaunted back over to the States to play SxSW again, where they were universally acclaimed as one of the must-see bands of the Texan festival.
The excitable trio are about to embark on an Australian tour with new friends the Arctic Monkeys and have been invited to play the new band stage at V Festival in the UK. Their live performance is something really special with Patience Hodgson's freewheeling voice and on stage antics keeping the crowds entertained no end so this is a show you won't want to miss!!
