Black Marker Presents The Star Department The Coldspoon Conspiracy Crayonsmith Bank Holiday Sunday Aug 6th @ The Boom Boom Room, Parnell St, above Conway's Pub, Dublin 1. Doors 9pm (bar open til 12.30am) Adm. €7 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Star Department a new four-piece band from Dublin. Their debut EP has been mixed and mastered by legendary American producer Kramer (Low, Daniel Johnston, Will Oldham, Lou Reed) who was impressed enough with the bands demo to want to produce them in the future. Together less than a year the band have already played some prestigious gigs including The IMRO Showcase Tour (www.imro.ie), The Ballroom Of Romance, 4play, Reservoir (Entertainment.ie) and King Kong Club guest appearances. The band have been described as having a "unique blend of sublime indie-pop and shimmering post-rock....a sonic cavalcade of densely packed melodies and flickering pieces of jangle, it's the euphoric way the ideas are thrown together that indicates this could be the start of something special" -Mp3hugger.blogspot.com "This Serena Maneesh-via-Ride style shoegazing is magisterial...powerful and haunting 8/10" -Channel 4 EP review "Embers shines with a masterful melody...we have something very interesting to look forward to on future releases" -Hotpress www.myspace.com/thestardepartment The Coldspoon Conspiracy are an Irish band who have just recently (re-)relocated back to Dublin after spending a year living in Melbourne and touring around Australia and New Zealand. They released they're very well received debut album 'Plays Well With Others' in 2003. It was recorded by Rob Bochnik (who has previously recorded/ engineered albums by Smog, The Breeders and Shellac) Expect the 2nd album later in 2006. The Coldspoon Conspiracy have supported such foreign bands as Explosions In the Sky (Texas), The Most Serene Republic (Canada) aswell as playing with great local bands such as The Redneck Manifesto, The Chalets, Mexican Pets, The Dudley Corporation, The Waiting Room. “an emotive lo-fi missive, rich in beguiling melodies and idiosyncratic touches…generally flawless…a fine record”- The Irish Times www.myspace.com/thecoldspoonconspiracy Crayonsmith is the pop/rock/alternative music of Ciaran Smith from Dublin. Ciaran released his debut album to great reviews in May. "Stay Loose" was written with help of some friends and whatever instruments he had close to hand (drum-machine, guitar, keyboards, bass, glockenspiel, tooth-brush etc.) It has landed the band gigs with Peter Bjorn and John, Robin Guthrie, Viva Voce, Electric Six, Joy Zipper, Jim Noir, The Chalets, Jape, Goodtime John, Giveamanakick, Waiting Room, The Dudley Corporation, Ten Past Seven, Windings, Neosupervital and Jeff Martin, as well as spots at the prestigious Ballroom of Romance and the highly reputable Lazybird in Dublin. www.myspace.com/crayonsmith
