STAR BELGRADE - THE ULTRA MONTANES - HOOVERS & SLEDGEHAMMERS Crawdaddy (Harcourt St, D 2), Friday 21 July, 8pm, Adm. Eur10/8 Text STAR to 085-1476030 or go to http://www.theultramontanes.com for concessions. __________________________________ STAR BELGRADE Star Belgrade have had a fantastic opening to their career which began with a bedroom demo recorded on a 4 track tape recorder. Within days of sending out the tapes, "Red Arc" was broadcast by Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 1. "It just goes to show you that you don't necessarily have to go into a big, expensive 24 track studio to make something that will grab people's attention... that's a real grower that track" (Steve Lamacq) From there, the radio interest grew. For Aligre FM in Paris they recorded a session which recieved heavy airplay & featured in the stations Top 30 playlist. "Red Arc" continues to be broadcast on independant stations & podcasts throughout Europe & the UK. Since the launch of their web page on CPU.ie in February '06, their songs have been dowloaded by an incredible 12,300 listeners, making them the website's most downloaded unsigned Irish band of all time. Live reviews: "Star Belgrade have purpose... Their sound is wide and large, with a technological feel, that isn't clinical. Mike's stage presence is big... a brooding and expectant air that makes listening to them an exciting and visceral experience...impressive" (Paul Galbally, freelance journalist) The band are set to enter the studio for the first time to record their debut EP. A nationwide release and tour will begin later this summer. Band website: http://artists.cpu.ie//bands/1193/ _____________________________ THE ULTRA MONTANES Having already made big news with their debut album (Q gave them a staggering 5-star review), The Ultra Montanes have finally emerged from their shady - albeit nonetheless more than interesting - existence with a brand new, yet unmistakably unique sound... "Sterilised" from their current EP "DIRTY BLOOD SAVED OUR TOWN" (2006) has already been picked up by radio stations. EP reviews: “… Dublin band return with… new razor-edged sound.” (The Ticket) “…a cracking EP … wonderfully uplifting… sickeningly modern” (Connected Magazine) Currently The Ultra Montanes are in and out of the studio recording their new album. They have also done a very successful mini-tour of Ireland with Babyshambles in April 2006. "DIRTY BLOOD SAVED OUR TOWN" is downloadable from www.theultramontanes.com as well as a demo version of their forthcoming single (This Party). Hot remix versions are also on the way. All of this aside, The Ultra Montanes are probably one of Dublin's finest live acts, their shows bursting with tight, sweaty and mesmerising energy. Band website: www.theultramontanes.com ___________________________ HOOVERS & SLEDGEHAMMERS Their music gloriously ignores all fads and trends..." (Jackie Hayden-Hotpress). "They got me dancin'" (Mary Harney). "I'd love to work with these guys" (Kylie Minogue). Hoovers and Sledgehammers are a Dublin based duo of rock/abstract performance artists. Igor Honey plays bass and some keyboards and Earl mustard plays drums, guitar and sings(sometimes all at the same time). They formed early in 2002 and have four independently released albums under their belt (with each album averaging 30 compositions or more). Recorded with a humble tascam 4-track recorder and mostly made up on the spot, they are: Fox at my window (2002), Shut the F**k up (2003), Hoovers and Sledgehammers(2003) and most recently Dr.Carmel (2004) are the albums the boys have produced to date. The band are heavily influenced by Talking Heads, particularly their earlier work and are heavily uninfluenced by the Frames. In the summer of 2004 the band made a promo video for their cult hit Dalek Diarrhoea -disturbing work. They are working currently on two new promo videos for "Joyridin'" and "The Mercury Man". AND they promise cheese sandwiches for most of their shows. Not to be missed!! Band website: www.hooversandsledgehammers.com
