Well after many successful months running gigs down Corcaigh way, Drop-D have decided to give it a bash up here in Dublin.
So at the inaugural Drop-D bash we’ll have Cowboy X, New York Fashion Week, and The Eclectic. It’s on in Radio City on Wed July 12th, doors are 8pm, and it’s only €5 in. Prizes on the night too……
Blurb-type bits:
Having released their lead single Gabbi, in February of this year, followed by the radio single Between The Hit and The Miss in the last few weeks, Cowboy X present their precocious debut album, Who Are These People? (out today – June 30th!) Synth-laden pop-rock at its finest, Cowboy X’s first gig after their Album launch should be one to remember. Have a listen at www.myspace.com/cowboyxmusic
The words 'Intelligent' and 'Hard-Rock' may be viewed as oxymoronic by some, but New York Fashion Week are certainly a band to prove that hard rocking music doesn't have to be over the top or adolescent. Intellectually mature, emotionally understated, and above all energetically communicative, New York Fashion Week have taken hard rocking, melodically beautifully music to places where you never thought hard hitting rock music could go. With cursory nods to post-rock (a la Redneck Manifesto), cerebral hard rock (And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead etc.) and straight up catchy melodies (not unlike At The Drive In), this is a band who are not afraid to hit hard. The Eclectic boast not only a great collection of songs, but have one of the greatest Irish music videos ever. (I’m serious, go check it out. Kind of like a cross between Battle of the Planets and Paranoid Android.) This Dublin 5-piece have been steadily gaining a fanbase since 2004 with their own brand of textured alt-rock , and with recent ventures outside the Pale and at 2006 IMRO showcase, that seems set to continue. www.myspace.com/theeclecticsound for some songs, and that great video.
Drop-D is one of Ireland’s premier music sites, with coverage of the latest local/national and international bands. Gigs, albums, interviews, reviews, profiles: it’s all there.
A new issue of the e-zine goes up every two weeks, so if you’re a music fan, or just a humble musician, don’t miss it!
