Electroclash Press Release:
The Electroclash movement is the brainchild of DJ and promoter Larry Tee. The mogul behind Electro Records has united the electro fiends, punks, fashionistas and new-wavers alike with his electro-pop/rock live sets. But it’s not just about a movement - it’s an experimental scene that encompasses Larry Tee’s infectious DJ set, and the chic retro of W.I.T (Whatever It Takes). It aims to push the boundaries of music, clubbing, fashion and art with a slight nod to pretension and an even bigger wink at sense of humour.
After witnessing an early Fischerspooner show at an art gallery in Manhattan, Larry felt compelled to help this burgeoning music scene find a larger audience. In the process he created the Electroclash festival which witnessed performances by some of the scene's most noteworthy artists, such as Chicks On Speed, W.I.T, Peaches, Fischerspooner, Adult, the Detroit Grand Pubas, Khan, A.R.E. Weapons, Crossover, Soviet, and Morplay - plus a host of other artists and DJs who today define the Electroclash movement. Since then, the sound and scene surrounding 'Electroclash' has become the most influential
and innovative musical explosions to have taken place in recent years.
Larry Tee biog:
Larry’s musical involvement stretches back to his hometown of Atlanta, he promoted nightclubs and performed in popular bands throughout the 80s. His first band, the Fans, produced the B-52s independent single ‘Rock Lobster/52 Girls’. He also created the infamous Celebrity Club that featured acts like the Butthole Surfers, The Black Crows, and the 10,000 Maniacs. One of Tee’s best known projects was the running of legendary New York 80’s club nights Club Badd, Love Machine (home to RuPaul, whose hit "Supermodel" co-wrote) and Disco2000 – the club credited with being the first club night in the New York city to feature techno.
Larry Tee himself has DJing for two decades and has redeveloped the Berlin Electroclash sound with more than a sprinkle of New York attitude. From International DeeJay Gigolos and compilations such as American Gigolo, Disco Nouveau, definingTECH, Tech-Pop and current beau Electroclash, Tee's has flavoured the movement with his own selection of NYC bands, performers, DJs, artists and arrivistes. Last year’s five-day Electroclash festival held in his adopted hometown attracted thousands of fans and a barrage of media interest. It’s Dublin incarnation promises to be a multi-faceted event worth checking out.
W.I.T biog
W.I.T. (the so-called "Madonnas of Electroclash") are a sultry cauldron of slick moves, sassy style and a catchy spin on 80’s musical kitsch. This sexy Warholian trio of Melissa Burns, Christine Doza and Danielle Top appeared at the 2001 Electroclash festival after their first US single – a cover of The Car’s ‘Just What I Needed’. Their eponymous debut album is out on September 9th followed by a single ‘Hold Me’ (with remixes by Black Strobe, Patrick Pulsinger and Larry himself) on the 23rd.
