Roesy Plays Bewley's Theatre Grafton Street Nov, 13th SundaySupport comes from Gerry Scullion doors 8pm, 15 euro Roesy, who hails from Birr, Co Offaly, has had music coursing through his veins since his early years. Everyone has to start somewhere, and Roesy got his by singing along to his father’s records… From there, he moved on to writing lyrics and these soon turned into songs when he taught himself to play guitar. Like many teenagers, music became a passion for Roesy, but for him, it’s a passion that has grown and developed over the years. “Tender-hearted Irish singer/songwriters are two a cent but Roesy’s the best of the lot” RTE GUIDE, Ireland 2004 Although rooted in Ireland, Roesy has wanderlust and his interesting travels have also had a lasting impact on his music. You can hear the influence of Roesy’s wanderings in Bolivia in songs such as Smothered in Light, Potosi Mine and time spent in Nepal can be felt in What Would I Know. Through his career he has shared the stage with Bert Jansch, Paul Brady, Billy Bragg, John Martyn, Davy Spillane, Donovan, Shane McGowan, Ron Sexsmith plus celebrated author Paul Durcan. Roesy appeared in the first Other Voices TV series on RTE. He was nominated for Best New Irish Act in the 2004 Meteor Music Awards and voted no.8 in the Trad/Folk section of the Hot Press Awards 2005. His song Potosi Mine was included in the Diamond Mountain Session Presents…. Compilation CD, also featuring Sinead O’Connor, Steve Earle, Natalie Merchant and Sharon Shannon. Roesy has been receiving radio airplay throughout Ireland, having done sessions and interviews on all key Today FM shows including the Meteor Award winning Ray D’arcy Show, Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show, Tom Dunne’s Pet Sounds (featuring twice as Artist of the Week) and RTE 1 shows Pat Kenny, John Creedon and RattleBag.
