Holt are going on a world tour. Actually no, they're just playing Dublin and Cork. Here are the exciting details: Holt, Chris Meyler, Captain Bringdown – Sunday May 15th 8 pm, Head of the River, Cork, zero euro. Holt also play the Lower Deck, Portobello, Dublin, supporting The Maladies on Friday, May 13th, for a meagre €7. ******* Dublin-based roots, rock and country’n’Australiana band, Holt, play a free gig in the Head of the River, Cork, on Sunday May 15th at 8 pm. Also playing on the night are talented singer Chris Meyler and the enigmatic Captain Bringdown - Ritchie Kavanagh for the jilted generation, with such delightful dirges as ‘Oh Lord, get out of the Shower’ and ‘My Lovely Mullet’. All Holt’s songs are about Australia, most of the band having developed an obsession with the country while living there picking fruit for next to no money before engaging in interesting discourse with the local immigration authority. The band’s first album, 80 Mile Beach, got the following critical response: "A subdued and truly lovely debut" - The Sunday Tribune "A warmer Johnny Cash … Simplicity and candour are obviously the keys to Holt’s power … the music itself is more than enough reason to dive headlong into Holt’s world and possibly never come back" - Hot Press The Irish Times said we were "unabashedly schmaltzy", but then they still pay Kevin Myers good money "The find of the year" - John Cavanagh, Radio Six, Glasgow, 2004 For more, see www.desertedvillage.com, Haroldholtmusic@yahoo.co.uk
