This Friday, April 29, Deserted Village presents former Codeine and Come member, CHRIS BROKAW, playing a solo set in The Boom Boom Room above Conway's on Parnell Square. Support is from Northstation and Agitated Radio Pilot Doors 8 pm, 10 euro. Better than a slap in the face with a wet cat. For more information see www.desertedvillage.com, www.chrisbrokaw.com, www.stevefanagan.com and www.theboomboomroom.tv. *** CHRIS BROKAW Former member of legendary US bands, Codeine and Come, Chris Brokaw plays a solo show at The Boom Boom Room on Parnell Square on the Dublin leg of his Irish tour which also takes in Belfast and Limerick. Brokaw is promoting his most recent recording, the soundtrack he made for Roddy Bogawa's underground film, "I Was Born, But...". The Washington Post described Brokaw's work on the score as "a sonic dust devil, no film necessary". A musical polymath, Brokaw has played with such groundbreaking acts as the New York-based Codeine and Boston's Come. He has also played guitar for Cobra Verde and Manta Ray, and has a fruitful artistic relationship with New York singer/guitarist, Steve Wynn, with whom he has recorded several cds and toured extensively. In 1997, Brokaw formed Pullman with former members of Tortoise and in 1998 he formed The New Year with former members of Bedhead. He has also recently contributed to recordings by Thalia Zedek, The Willard Grant Conspiracy and Molasses. NORTHSTATION Northstation is just one of the guises of Steve Fanagan, who is also currently recording and releasing music under the monikers of Moose Eats Leaf, Old Man Polka and Wrecking Ball. The moody, found-sound experimentalism of Northstation really captures Fanagan's menacing side. A combination of electronically produced cut-ups, samples and rythms, and 'real' instruments, the Northstation album, Bears, crams in way too many ideas to ever be deemed suitable for daytime or mainstream consumption. As Northstation, Fanagan employs top-notch programming and beautiful sequencing to create a dark, journey-like and cohesive instrumental narrative. AGITATED RADIO PILOT Part of the Deserted Village music collective, Agitated Radio Pilot's psychogeographical explorations take random, rustic electronica down new, unexplored rabbit holes. With spools of haunted guitar, the ancient glow of chord organs and vocals riding high in the rustic night, the Pilot follows a lonely trajectory.
