Brendan Benson
Unique solo acoustic performance
07 March, Live at Doyles on Fleet Street
Brendan Benson is performing solo in Doyles on Fleet Street, Monday 07
March. This intimate acoustic show is not to be missed.
'Eclectic in his tastes and expression, Benson will swing from
rollicking power-pop to introspective musical soul searches to sublime, bashing rock and all of it straight from the heart'. Chris Handyside
Brendan Benson's dazzling new third album, 'Alternative To Love',
produced by The White Stripes' Jack White is due out early March. White also joined Benson on stage in London recently when Benson was
performing as special guest to Keane. White performed 'Good to Me', a
Benson composition that the White Stripes covered on the B-Side to their 'Seven Nation' single. 'Alternative To Love' feels like the precisely calibrated offspring of its predecessors - brighter than Lapalco, not quite as big a sugar-rush as Mississippi. "It's a nice kind of blend of the two," Benson says.
Despite Benson's professed allergy to singer-songwriter syndrome, he has been doing more acoustic gigs the past few years, which played into the songwriting process. And while the songs are mostly about love, heartbreak, and connection, the context isn't always romance - Bensons also draws on harder life experience, like being abandoned by his father, and the death of his grandfather who raised him. "A lot of times it might sound like I'm singing about a girl, but it just might be about someone or something entirely different," he says. This intimate solo performance by Brendan Benson in Doyles, 07 March is not to be missed.
