May 31st THE CITADELS, Cork’s rockiest six piece jazz-pop band, are set to liven up your summer at dates all over the county. This six-piece outfit, fronted by songwriter Cormac O Caoimh, draws its influences and its members from jazz, blues and folk-rock to produce a sound that is distinctive, fresh and very danceable. Their first album “Letting go, holding on” shows the diversity of musical talent on offer. It has been receiving airplay nationwide including 2fm, today fm and our own redfm and 96fm and further a field on BBC6 and US internet radio stations. Cormac O’ Caoimh’s passionate powerful lyrics and vocals resonate with Eoghan (Reggie) Regan’s blues inspired jazz riffs on electric guitar. Arthur O’Leary adds a touch of blues rock in the piano and Aoife Regan’s inspired vocals will lift even the most jaded among you to a high and soulful place. This is why since the album’s release, the band have played everywhere from Soho blues clubs to concerts in Amsterdam (supporting Damien Rice) to all our own music loving venues in Cork. This is no music for bedsit dwellers, as anyone who’s seen their live performances will tell you, these guys know how to rock; they sing their hearts out, they dance, they look – not half bad actually. Cormac O’ Caoimh, the band’s frontman and founder, says “we’re really starting to have a lot of fun up there now - when you follow the music and get into it. The band has changed line-up many times but the current group of 6 is by far the best.” To see the THE CITADELS live yourself you can catch them on Thursday June 4th (Pa Johnsons), Friday June 5th (Costigans) and Sunday June 7th (Mulligans) as part of the Uncorked Festival. Cormac is playing 2 solo gigs in Edinburgh on June 11th and 12th but back to join the rest of gang for gigs on June 19th (Connollys of Leap), July 2nd (Charlies), July 3rd (The Blackbird), July 6th (the Hub in Dublin) , July 24th (De Barras) and July 31st (Charlies).
