Words barely do justice to the significance of the forty years plus of recording and performing which Roy Ayers has bestowed on us. From the day in 1945 when Lionel Hampton saw this ecstatic 5 year old jumpin’ with joy at what he had just heard, and handed him the gift of a lifetime, a set of his vibe mallets…his destiny was set. Today, Roy continues to pack venues round the world, playing with the same energy and passion that he exhibited back in 1945. Some of the artists and producers who have recorded with, performed with or sampled the vibraphone mastery of Roy Ayers include: George Benson, Milt Jackson, Herbie Hancock, Teddy Edwards, Herbie Mann, Donald Byrd, Rick James, Ron Carter, Branford Marsalis, Curtis Amy, Tom Browne, Stanley Clarke, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Paulino da Costa, Stevie Wonder, Lonnie Liston Smith, Pharoah Sanders, Galliano, Scott Grooves, Terry Burrus, Soul Society, Erykah Badu, Whitney Houston, Mary J. Blige, Brand Nubian, Ruth Joy, Masters at Work, Naughty by Nature, Eric Benet, Jocelyn Brown, Tupac, The Roots, The Jungle Brothers, The Avalanches and the James Taylor Quartet. In advance of his Ubiquity Tour performances, the new Roy Ayers album, 'Virgin Ubiquity: Unreleased Recordings 1976-1981', has just been released on Rapster/BBE. During the recording of this album, Roy Ayers & Edwind Birdsong, along with BBE label boss Peter Adarkwah got together and re-recorded one of Roy’s lesser know classics, ‘Hummin’. Roy gave him unlimited access to literally hundreds of unreleased recordings. The album before you is the first in what is likely to be a series of albums, giving public life to what can only be termed “the holy grail” of any true music lovers search. Featuring: 1.
