Feile................Definition - Festival, hospitality, generosity
In this context EL FEILE is a 5 day celebration of Irish and Celtic culture through music, dance, sports, cinema, comedy, art, food, pints and the legendary ‘craic’. It will take place from the 12th to the 17th of March.
EL FEILE is the first festival of it’s kind in Barcelona and indeed the Iberian peninsula.
The aim is to establish the festival as an inherent part of the cultural events calender in Spain.
To reinforce this point the organisers are starting as they aim to continue by developing a quality, varied programme mixing internationaly recognised names with young pretenders and imported talent with local.
Music
The headline act will be The Hothouse Flowers, one of Irelands most successful bands, who are back with a new album. www.hothouseflowers.com Support is provided by up and coming artist Steafan Hanvey.

For Trad fans there will be workshops in music and dance. There will also be an outdoor concert on Sunday where local band The Barnyard Boys shall be joined by The Claddagh Ring Dancers in the very charming cloisters of the St Filip Neri abbey in Gracia.

Gaelic Games
Gaelic Games are most definetly Irelands national games. Unknown to many but growing in profile local Gaelic club Barcelona Gaels will be hosting a tournament at UB’s facilities on Diagonal. They will be joined by over 200 competitors from Spain and Ireland. The two main disciplines football and hurling will be on display.
Where: El Servei d’Esports de la Universitat de Barcelona at Av. Diagonal 695 – 701 (metro stop --. Zona Universitat L3 ) .
When :Sat 13th March - Kick off will be at 11am with the final taking place about 5pm
Comedy
The rare chance to go to english language stand up comedy will be afforded to Barcelonas international audience with well known irish comedians eddie Bannon and Brendan Dempsey’s hit show MED, LGE.
Where: Cercle de Catolic de Gracia, Santa Magdalena 12, Gracia.
When: Mon 15th curtain 9pm
Tickets 11 euros in advance 13 on the door

Cinema
There will also be a cinema programme featuring a full spanish premiere for an irish production taking place at the CCCB.
At this moment venue and times have yet to be confirmed.
It is hoped to also have some Art exhibition in different spaces around the city. Details as yet unconfirmed.
The festival will be supported by a full programme of events in affiliated Irish pubs around the city offering varied live music, festival menus and many more promotions culminating in St Paddys Day on the 17th March.
Aer Lingus will also be running a promotion over the festival in which they will be giving away flights on their new Barcelona – Cork route.
