If I was gay (which I'm not), these comments would incense me even more than they already have done.. to call Quint ignorant is not a personal attack, but a fact. It's ignorant to dismiss someone because of their homosexuality OR heterosexuality, and this was bandied about in quite a juvenile, immature way by more than one person on this thread.
Oh please, write to Amnesty international or something. What happened was
- Mudbug said they liked Rufus Wainwrights music
- Quint said they didn't (because they just don't like it), but also questioned if he'd have gotten as much attention if he was straight. Maybe that comment was appropriate, maybe not, either way, it's borderline. Flip it round, is say asking if Bruce Springsteen would have the same broad fanbase if he was gay much different? Maybe it's an awkward question, but that doesn't mean it doesn't hold some validity.
- You jump in getting on the uber-PC lefty weeny getting-offended-on-other-peoples-behalf moral high ground going off about rampant rampant homophobia, ignorance, cretins, blah, blah, blah.
- PeterQuaife throws in silly peurile joke, you take the bait and run with it.
Heres the thing, you want real debate? Well then you may have to tolerate someone saying something you might find offensive or disagree with. There are limits to what people can post, like anything openly hateful, but to dictate certain things as outright taboo and attempt to just shut people down when they express opinions, even if those opinions are wrong is a form of intolerance itself.
