i got beat up at a verve gig. I got punched around by knackers while richard ashcroft was singing sonnet at max volume. I think i win the grim gig experience.

You've got a point. Only my ears hurt being subjected to that (c)rap/nu-metal nonsense, sounds like pretty much all of you was hurting- you win!

it was. Only went to see the manics and they were gash. pretty terrible gig all round

I saw The Verve at The Point years ago & they were - as you would say - complete gash. Ashcroft came out onstage waving a gold disc about, spouting on about how brilliant they were and "look, we've a gold disc to prove it"! Soon as the 1st bars of "Drugs Don't Work" started, hundreds of jaykeys seemed to come out of the shadows & were all dancing around hugging each other (& in one case, there was one really strung-out dude hugging himself!)... it was grim alright. I didn't get beaten up though, so I missed out on the full experience!

if you haven't had a kickin then you haven't really seen them! yeah, gash is the word. When I saw them Richard Ashcroft kept going on about how it was the the best day of his life and how they'd sold something daft like a million copies in ireland or somesuch and then played bitter sweet symphony for 20 minutes.
The verve are a great reminder of how badly music sucked in the 90s

dont lose the run of yourself there rob, the verve's 'northern soul' along with rides 'carnival of light' were to of my favourite records from the 90's...with a host of others

Aye... The Verve had some decent tunes alright - I think their live shows were not so much a reminder of how music sucked in the 90s as how up their own holes a lot of bands became in the 90s!

never heard northern soul. i did like that song "this is music". but urban hymns was a pretty dreary record. and an inexplicably massive one too

Can't say I've ever regreted going to a gig, but there have been a few where I've felt zero connection with the band or the crowd ... I've just been standing there going "I don't get this", whereas the place would be hopping.

I walked out on Juana Molina last week. I feel she got me there under false pretenses by being good for te final 3 minutes of her set at EP.
