anyone else hear anything about this over the weekend?? seems ticket sales are shocking and the locals are up in arms because it's more of a rave than a gig.

I can't say I blame them. Initially the gig was being touted as a boutique festival to rival Electric Picnic but with the line up they went for the majority of people who'll go to it are going to be real scum bags. There's enough of them already in the midlands without busing in even more from around the country.

Yeah, I'm from Mullingar and I would be delighted to see this cancelled. Belvedere is a beautiful place and it's just depressing thinking of all those skangers ruining the place. The rumours might be coming from the fact that Hi-Fi falls on the same weekend as the Scratch Cup and the Golf Club, which is right beside Belvedere, are officially objecting to it which I agree with. The chavs are just going to take lumps out of the greens while high on E and chanting 'I'm a Firestarter' etc. What I find most despicable is that MCD didn't bother to send any representative to all the fact-finding meetings in the last few months. They just don't give a s**t about Mullingar or Belvedere, they're only interested in how much money they can make.f**k the locals. It's pathetic the way MCD are trying to promote it as some sort of alternative EP with 'Sunset Celebrations', Cinema 'Champagne Hampers' (!?), 'Chill Out Zone'. All it is is just one huge drug-fuelled rave which will attract every skanger in their subhuman forms from all across the country.

It's not going to be that bad. People 'high on e' aren't going to wreck anything other than their jaws and give sweaty hugs to strangers. I've been to Homelands and Creamfields and there was no trouble whatsoever. And its a pet hate of mine but there isn't any chavs in ireland. They are skangers, scumbags etc but not chavs

He's not being snobby at all. He's 100% right. As regards to the post about never seeing any trouble at these kind of events at all, I've being DJing in niteclubs for nearly five years and I've seen my fair share of rows. Inevitably the more DJ's of the the hard house or trance variety that are playing in a venue the more knackers that will come and see them. The more knackers that you have the more drug taking and violence takes place. The more drug taking and violence which takes place the more the police threaten to close the niteclub down unless the club change their music policy. The same applys to events like this. Basically if you decide to put on a gig featuring the likes of Tiesto, Marco V, Ferry Corsten and Armand Van Buuren you might as well send out an invite to everyone in the country who has a crinimal record. It's no suprise that this event is being shut down.

I don't think its fair to label people who like House or Trance as Skangers, Knackers, Chavs, whatever. I always thought popping e's was a fairly middle class thing and I have yet to see people who are e'd off their heads looking for trouble. Reckon if Oasis were headlining you'd see far more trouble.

Of course he isn't 100% right. you mention you see trouble at niteclubs? No s**t sherlock. There isn't a pub or niteclub in the land that hasn't seen a fight. Again, I went to festivals such as creamfields and homelands with the the great unwashed and didn't see any fights. The last thing you would want to while 'high one E' is start a fight. Temple Theatre had the most roughest crowd in Dublin yet I witnessed very few fights there. There were few too busy making new best mates and proclaiming the night to the best ever. Of course only criminals like hard house lol

There'a a massive difference between the crowds that go to Electric Picnic in Portlaoise or Oxegen in Punchestown and the types of people who will go to see hard-house and trance acts at Hi-Fi. I'm not saying that everybody who listens to hard-house or trance is a skanger and of course the like of Oasis will attract skangers also. But the acts I mentioned above will attract far more skangers than anybody playing at the likes of the Picnic or Oxegen. Just talk to anybody who works in a music shop and ask them to describe the typical person who buys a Euphoria CD. That'll give you a fair indication of the type of person that this festival is aimed at. And if you think that popping E's was mostly a middle pastime then you are very very wrong.

How the fvck will a shop assistant know what kind of a person buys euphoric dance cds? Sure he could describe their clothes. Maybe they'll have a dublin accent, wear levis and a ben sherman shirts. Yes that'll give us a good indication. Does that make them a scum bag? Certainly not. Everyone takes pills, be it rich or poor.

A more accurate description would be a ratty little knacker tash, a garish track suit, horrible gold jewelry, cheap as f*ck tatoos, a 16 year old girlfriend pushing a pram and a souped up boy racer car parked outside. You say that there's isn't any trouble at Creamfields or Homelands so how come the cops made more arrests when these feativals took place in Ireland than they did at those years corresponding Slaine gigs which had three times the capacity?

Woah! A lot of hate there amidst the sterotypes. From the Irish Times. Slane 2000: with hell raisers such as Macy Gray, Moby and Bryan Adams 'By 6 p.m. there had been just 10 arrests, nine for possession of drugs, and one for public disorder. There were also 66 seizures of cannabis and ecstasy. A young man was injured when he fell from a "human pyramid". He was taken to hospital in Drogheda with head injuries.' Creamfields 2000 '14 people were arrested. The rest were detained and searched, and small amounts of cannabis and ecstasy were found, for which summonses will be issued.'

Well first of all ('I must say' in posh accent) this thread is horribly, horribly and ashamedly middle class, so before we all start telling each other where we come from adn how much money we make and how we dress, your all basically generalising and using your own experiences or impressions to judge these festivals. From my experience people have been fairly aggressive at Creamfields or Cream in the Point but that was mostly when they were coming down from the pills, as if the poor bastard they start on took their buzz away from them or something. Secondly drug taking skangers (I'm aware I'm generalising but who isn't) like anything to do with drugs or something urban orientated (Oasis, RHCP,mostly crap rap with added bling to make them look good in their own minds). Festivals like Oxegen are attracting so many more assholes who are their to basically camping and getting off their heads and dont care about the music. This is my 1st year goin to EP and from what I hear and see the organisers try and wheedle out the dimwit who takes up space from the actual music lover and kudos to Aiken and POD for actually trying to do that. MCD are pack of dogs who couldn't give a s**t about anyone as long as they have €160 and pay for ridiculous extras and keep the machine goin. I'm glad to hear that Hi-Fi has gone to s**t coz it sounded like and most likely was goin to be an orgy of pills and all the other s**t that is called drugs in this country when, from what I hear, you can't get any decent stuff in this country. Moral of the story is 'drugs are bad, nkay?' I'm sure some pill popper will rebuke me telling me they never started trouble when they were off their head
