Hi everyone,
Just to let you know I'll be doing an hour long show Saturday May 24th on Dublin South FM from 6 - 7pm. The frequency is 104.9FM. I'll be playing some tunes from up and coming Irish artists (Mumblin Deaf Ro, Settler, Boa Morte, etc.) and broadcasting details of upcoming gigs, before getting onto more established acts, and I'll be playing little known songs from them or songs from some of their new releases.
Hope you can tune in.
Jimmy

Just on the pirate radio front..i hear Phantom and others have voluntarily gone off air and others have been 'not so voluntarily' taken off the air....along with the fact that No Disco has gone bye byes..I think there is a conspiracy goin on with the Irish Media to ban any un-commerical stations/shows, to force feed the nation with a load of middle of the road poo...it's a sad state of affairs.
Good luck with this show, I hope it takes off for you, I think music lovers in Ireland are really going to have to do something about a situation that's worsening daily.

Well said Dromed, people should definitely speak out against this sort of thing. I really enjoyed doing the show, it went great considering I'd never done a radio show before and I'll be doing it again in August,so I'll keep you posted.
I'd love any feedback, did you or anyone else hear the show?

I'm only reading the post now, so I didn't get to hear it..
Keep us posted if you are going to be doing it on a regular basis.

so thats whats happened to phantom - thought maybe their mast had been stroked again. so whats the inside story?
i see by the website, they are continuing online (not much use to me as i sit in rush hour traffic having tatu shoved down my throat)
there definitely is some kind of mind control being exercised here - but who the fcuk is responsible for it? look at SONGS FROM A ROOM - being aired at 11.20pm instead of primetime - and certainly too late to encourage any youngsters watching to pick up a guitar or whatever - no. all they can get is a diet of poptarts known as the chartshow.

Eh? Phantom gone? I'm certain I was listening to the Anorak Hour last Sunday?
This is a goddam disaster (especially since I just coughed up 45 euro for a new radio). This sucks really badly. Short of Ton Dunne, there is virtually no non-chart music on the radio. What the hell do the powers that be think they are doing? Phantom has been around in one for or another since the early eighties - do they really think there is no demand for this sort of music?

Hey it's gettin pretty bad alright - I hear that Jazz FM had their gear confiscated, not sure how true...but Phantom having 'volunteered' to go off air for a bit will be back on soon enough - they just thought they'd save themselves getting their gear taken off them. Nightmare. Can't believe Jazz FM is gone though - it's a decent station too. The only stuff I can think of on air otherwise is Jay Ahern's show on 2fm, Sunday nights - not too bad. Alison Curtis has gotten a show on Sunday nights on Today FM too (she was on Phantom) and Tom Dunne/Donal Dineen are others - still not the same as having a good 'ol pirate! Phantom FM had near to 4% Listenership according to the Irish Independent today....and they go giving licences to feckin' country and western music station...I ask ya, what's going' on?

It's just mind blowing how dumb these people are. Again and again they issue licenses to commercial stations with a list of criteria which they blatantly flaunt. WIthout the likes of phantm etc we are reduced to niche times such as Midnight on Sunday etc etc.
Perhaps Phantom should startup up again with a Psychic phone in or some other rot that doesn't even appeal to taxi drivers.
I think it is time to invest in that digital radio.

Hi everybody,
Doing an hour long show on Dublin South FM again this Saturday at 6pm, 104.9fm, playing only alternative music and will throw in a couple of Irish acts, and might play a couple of golden oldies. I've only selected a bunch of songs for half the show so far, I've no shortage of songs, but if anyone has any suggestions, I'm happy to be play & dedicate them. (providing I have a song by the artist in question of course)
Hope you can tune in
Jimmy

I know this is an old topic but just a note on some good radio programmes I discovered on Anna Livia, I think it's 103.2fm. On Sat. at 3-5pm there's a prog. called the Soul Kitchen, plays really good soul, Northern Soul and Motown. After that 5-7pm a prog. called Backbeat, plays good 60's/70's stuff, after that til 8pm there's a girl that plays good indie stuff and then 8-9pm some guy plays really good Jamaican stuff, reggae, dub and rocksteady. All the shows are worth a listen.

The only problem, I think, is that when a set of people can actually get a licence, the old advertising people come in, and of course, when theres advertising involved, Station Managers or whatever will have to get money in through advertising, therefore have to play to a wider audience, therefore have to play sh!te music that is played on ALL other daytime radio stations about 6-7 time a day.
Of course it sucks when big money starts to get involved, but sure isn't it the downfall of all good things???

Did anyone hear Donal Dineen on the radio last night....I was listening to Hear comes the night' and towards the end of the show he was saying that his show had lost 35% of listeners since this time last year and that it was very serious - he sounded like he was going to start crying on air - bad news, I really like his show, it's chilled out to f**k. I've found a load of new bands i like through him - ok not new bands but new to me...The Sea and Cake anyone??? The Postal Service? The Voight Brothers? Dead dead good.

Hello everyone,
If you're doing nothing on Saturday evening (Nov 22nd), I'll be doing yet another hour long show on Dublin South FM from 6 - 7pm. The frequency is 104.9FM. I'll be playing a few classy indie tunes (not necessarily very recent ones)from the likes of Placebo, Warhols, Flaming Lips etc., a few countryish tunes Neil Young, Warren Zevon, etc. and a bit of mellowing out too. I'll throw in a bit of goth too if I've time, the Cure or something like that. Expect some rarities.
Hope you can tune in. Let me know what ye think if any of you hear it.
Cheers
Jimmy
