Howdy all, Nothing to do with music I know, but Mick McCarthy is finally gone. I think this is a shame. After all, when he took the job with a bunch of players that grown old and gone down together, he brought new blood into the team and gave a lot of nobodies a chance to prove themselves and formed a good young team. It's a pity all this will be ignored in the wake of the Roy Keane incident, something that went completely out of proportion. But I for one, appreciate the fact that he's put Ireland back on the footballing map and refuse to join the bandwagoner fans who boo/hiss at him at matches when they were singing his praises just a couple of months before. He's done a good job at the end of the day. So what now? Who should take over? Should Roy Keane be let back into the team? Is there any hope of qualifying for Euro 2004? Peace and love to you all Q

Yet another sad indictment on Ireland's (British) tabloid culture! Much respect to Mick. And to all you dozy fu*kers who booed and smeared him...well done! You forgot to consider that there is nobody around who is good/interested enough to do the job any better. Enjoy the coming years in the international doldrums.

In fairness, anyone who has any knowledge of the beautiful game will agree that McCarthy's persistence with a patently incapable Kevin Kilbane at international level was as much responsible for his demise than anything to so with Roy Keane. Since Keane left we have has one world class player, Damien Duff, playing out of position at centre forward to facilitate Kilbane. This is a David Brent like management faux pas. I would be very surprised if McCarthy lands a Premiership job given his consistent displays of tactical cluenesses. End of discussion

mick did a good job as a manager of largely average players, he knew how to control the guys who knew very well that they are lucky to be playing first division never mind international football his problem was that he was clueless when it came to managing the one player in the team that was good enough to know better he was useless, at the same time that keane was having his disagreements with mick raul was hhaving problems with the spanish management, the difference was that they kept it quiet and noboy went running to the papers in tears, i blame keane as much for what happened, but what is done is done, and i didnt like what i heard at half time in the swiss game either. no matter who the knew manager is they have to bring roy back,, the only chance of qualifying now, is to bring him back and put duff on the left with morrison up front and for the love of god send phil "starsky" babb back to where ever he has been hiding for the last few years. i have an exam tomorrow and this really is not helping me at all so goodnight now

I for one am glad to see the back of Mick. His tactical naivety overshadows the good he did in rebuilding the aged team Jack left him.Why he had to wait til we were a goal down in all the World Cup matches before switching Duff to midfield beggars belief.Kilbane is a useful 1st div player and shouldn't be anywhere near the squad, not to mind being 1st choice for the team.Hopefully with Keano back and a decent manager we can make it to the playoffs for Portugal. Go on Ireland!!!
