Posted By Ally on 24 Jan 2007 3:57 AM au revoir simone - feb 28th Saw these a while back. All I could think of was the Raffle episode of father Ted, were there was a Kraftwerk-esque Priest band. I didn't make much of them to be honest, but I did enjoy the super levels of enthusiasm of one of the girls on stage.

I bought their album that night (only €8 - isnt it great how you can buy an album off the artist, get to meet them, have it signed, and save a whole load of cash than buying it in a record store?) and liked it a lot. I'd highly recommend them. I'd also add Bloc Party to the list of exciting gigs coming up.

I saw them in Whelans about 2 years ago. whatever their buzz is that cant really be classed as music can it?!? Well I'm sure in some wierd way it can - but they are by far the most confusing sounds i have ever heard. Nice blokes tho. Apart from the singer... SAP!

SAP! benni, those four would certainly be at the top or very near the top of my list also.... i was going to give wolf eyes a lash for my one mad noise gig per year... lightning bolt last year and this mob for 2007 - will think twice now... the ex and a certain ratio though - big smiles! least fussed about hold steady, field music, CSS i reckon... decemberists, nina nastasia, joanna newsom (again), magnolia electric co would be other must sees for me

Saw joanna newsom before - she's amazing and I'd love to go but the dates clash with my bands single release (cough *plug* etc hehe) :-) I'd definitely recommend checkin her out. The new stuff will be amazing I reckon.
Re: Wolf eyes - id go along if I were you, just to see them and hear them live! I really like Lightning Bolt and the gig in Whelos last year was LEGEND! but as far as Wolf Eyes go - load of w**k if you ask me!!! But like i say - go along and see/hear for yourself..... still the most confusing gig i have ever witnessed!

the wrens - feb 15th the hold steady - feb 27th arcade fire - mar 5/6th joanna newsom - april 14th Of those listed those are the ones that I'll definately be at (coughhackgetthereearlyforthewrenscough), I think ...and you will know us by the trail of dead are playing on Feb 13th as well. Of the other's listed I'd be interested in going to the decemberists (not a big fan but I saw them live once and was really impressed), my brightest diamond (she's alright, lovely voice), micah p hinson, i'm from barcelona (heard great things about the last gig) andrew bird, pajo and low. I'm with benni on Wolf Eyes, I was at the whelans gig and it was a load of s**te. My mates were talking to one of them after the gig during the usual Whelans club and some ultra jangly Smiths song (probably this charming man) came on and he stopped wht he was saying and said "oh I love this song ... don't tell anyone." Mad pre/post gig music on the PA as well, Damien Rice and Elliot Smith.

i don't know how well known field musci are in dublin but i'd highly recommend people go and see them at whelans at the end of feb.
they are one of the most inovative and playful bands to emerge in recent years, their new LP 'tones of town' is exceedingly good and they're top lads to boot.

Nobody's mentioned Mastodon... Au Revoir Simone are fantastic on record, fantastic in video form, and, I presume fantastic ladies in general, but I Are Scientists if they're any use live at all. The music is far too pretty and pristine to work live, as WAS proved. However, as previously stated, the girl on the far right might forget her bra and get loaded on Red Bull again... If that's what you look for in your gigs like Charlotte Hatherley in the Village, anyone?
