I think it has been an awful year for movies... a few stand out -
Amelie and Shrek have been mentioned.
But two foreign language movies stood out for me - A One and A Two and Amoros Perros. Both were long, intense and emotional movies and were miles above anything produced by Hollywood this year...

hey everyone,
yeah not a great year for movies,
shrek was great, its been a while since i laughed so much in the cinema.
amores perros was pretty good, but that model shouting "ritchie" all the time was a bit annoying, and i haven´t seen amelie though heard it was brilliant.
Think my favorite this year was Moulin Rouge. Just so different. Saw it once in Ireland and a couple of weeks ago in Spain. Very strange cos songs in english and rest in spanish. Wonder how many Spaniards understood how the songs fit in without understanding what the lyrics meant.
Bring on Lord of the Rings.

Harry Potter is a great movie, not a patch on the book though(the usual story).
has anyone ever seen a movie that was better than the book?

disco pigs was quite good and ghost world looks good too - haven't got around to seeing it yet though, but i will.
for mick's q - a movie that's better than the book - try shawshank redemption.

I'm sure by December 19th or shortly thereafter almost everyone will agree that Lord of the Rings is movie of the year.

Yeah, I wasn't very impressed with films this year overall and god knows I went to see enough of them. I did love Harry Potter for some strange reason although Lord of the Rings was miles better. Jay and silent bob was pretty funny too...shrek was enh....okay.
If man is five..if man is five....if man is five....then the devil is six....then the devil is six....then the devil is six...and if the devil is six then God is seven....god is seven.....this monkey's gone to heaven.

Films: Don't recall seeing any good films this year. Just thought I would comment on the weirdness of this discussion board. Its absolute nonsense, or maybe I'm just not with the in-crowd, up with the hip hop happening lingo or something. Ever feel like your identity has been stolen?
Ah yeah, the show is over, its all good. :}

Yet to come out here for some reason but 'Made' is absolute class from the same bunch that brought you 'Swingers.' Eye's peeled...

Has anyone checked out the new Coen bros. film 'The Man Who Wasn't There' It is beautifully shot with black and white, often with film noirish lighting. Great performances, especially from Billy Bob Thornton, story dwindles toward the end though, any opinions?
