I don't think I can give a better assesment of the gig now then I did last night as Owen Pallett walked off stage following his THIRD encore ; "Holy mother of f**k".
Astonishing.

why was it so good, lads?...
...i'm a little bit sceptical from the little bit i know of him but am open to being convinced... was planning on heading to the gig on sunday but didn't make it...
...tell me why he's so brilliant... i know he plays violin and he obviously loops it a fair bit (who doesn't these days?) and i know he has great visuals as well...
this is an honest question by the way

How long is a piece of string Palace?
Whatever that intangible thing is that makes someone great then he's got it.

Frankly its just his songs are fantastically written. I couldnt give a s**t about his visuals or if he plays violin. And his vocals live are great too...I was shocked by how good they were

That was what blew me away too. Yes, the fact that it was a violin instead of a guitar lended an air of quirkiness perhaps, but it is just the songs he writes - they're really powerful at times, really subtle at others (no not as often), incredibly well constructed from a technical viewpoint... I'd never heard him before. The visuals/projection-show thing add to it a bit I guess but I was just totally hypnotised by what he was playing and where he was going to go next that I barely paid attention to them to be honest
