Anyone at Damien Rice in vicar st. last night? Show was good but at the start of it he said the air con was being switched off due to the sound it would make. Fair enough I thought until as the gig progressed the place started to resemble a sauna! I was literally dripping wet coming out of there and I couldnt enjoy it properly because of the unbearable heat.

At antony and the johnsons last year the air con was wrecking my head. This constant ticking sound up from above the balcony. They should sort it out if the only solution is to turn it off have people sweating buckets.

Yeah it was unnatural.I was up on the balcony and it was bad, I csn only imagine what it was like in the main arena. I don't know how they could get around it though for the quieter acts other than come up with a way of making the air con quieter. Turning it off is way too drastic!

Yeah he played quite a lot of new stuff. Sound pretty good, a lot heavier than his previous stuff. Yer one Vivianne did a nice cover of the Flaming Lips' Yoshimi on the organ which was an unexpected but nice surprise. Lisa Hannigan sounded quality aswell. He had some nice vocal and delay effects going on which added to a lot of the tunes i thought.

i'm not a fan at all... however, i'm contributing to this thread to say that i was relaibly informed that most of the new stuff he played was actually old stuff (i.e. juniper)

One of the most ludicrously overrated singer-songwriters ever to emerge from this country. Is he still dining out on 'O' as he has been for the last half-decade?
Having to listen to Rice's miserable compositions in a hot, packed and air-con free Vicar Street is a thought too hellish to contemplate. I pity anyone who was at this.

I was at a wedding in Portumna last year and the priest went on about true love and said to the couple "i hope you have true love and not the kind of love you see on the adult channel", the poor groom (a friend of mine) could be seen on his knees shaking trying to hold back a fit of the giggles.
Nothing to do with Damian Rice, but sure what has

Sounds to me like the priest had doubts

Scathingly inaccurate as well. Nine Crimes isn't a new song. I've a demo tape that's about 6 years old with a recording of that song on it.

Wouldn't say scathing now, would have been quite interested to have heard the disembodied distortion/howling segments tho', if only to see does it match the sound I hear in my head when 'cannonball' comes on the radio unexpectedly

The whole review is a bit John Meagher vs The Distortion Mic isn't it? I mean, I despise Damien Rice/the Romans as much as anyone but yer man Meagher seems to have a problem with the idea of using one at all!
