Maybe this is old news but according to the 2FM website Jenny Houston has lost her old slot. Her show the Waiting Room used to go out four nights a week. I think her old time slot was 10.00-12.00. Now she's been pushed back to three nights a week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) and her show has been re-schedualed to the 12.00-2.00 slot. As a result Dan Hegarty has lost a couple of gigs and his show will now be broadcast at 12.00-2.00 on Sundays, Fridays and Mondays. Also it looks like his hopelessly outdated funk/soul/hip-hop/big-beat show has been axed as well.
So have 2FM lost fate in indie music?
Did they have to re-shuffle the pack when they took Marty Whelan on board for their breakfast show?
Or are they afraid that one of these presenters is going to bugger off to Phantom?

Funnily enough I was just reading back issues of The Ticket during lunch, & found this ...
http://www.ireland.com/theticket/articles/2005/0909/3179227145DISCOTHEKLAYOUT_A.html
As for your Phantom comment at the end, it would be kinda ironic since they swiped them from Phantom in the first place ... Not that 2FM condones Pirate Radio, but ...

The major problem with 2FM is the fact that they're a national radio station for a nation that doesn't have an identity, so they try to be everything to everybody. Marty is a fine broadcaster but he should be on Radio One. Because of this, the admittedly awful pair he's replacing are being re-distributed. When this kinda stuff happens, indie DJ's always get messed around.
As with the Ticket article, 2FM is a shambles. They have not recovered from moving Dave Fannings slot and that disastrous Dance Orientation.

I'd agree with that, as I've said before: http://www.cluas.com/discussion/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4401&SearchTerms=radio
I don't think Jenny Houstons show is any great loss though personally.

I think the main problem with Jenny's show is that her defintion of alternative music is just too narrow. All she plays is guitar driven indie rock from the 90s and 00's. She never plays any electronica or hip hop. I don't think she plays much bad music, I just find her show very repetitive. Still I'd rather have the option of listening to both her and Dan Hegarty in the one night than simply one of them and Rick O Shea.

I think Stroller hit the nail on the head with his comment there. Jenny Huston plays in the main good stuff (bar the NME approved music that gets in there on occasion) but much of it is too similar, if that's her thing I can't really criticise, she's into what she's into. If I was in the car at night I used to flick between her and the repeat of Dunphy's show to keep me from falling asleep but with her up against Donal Dineen it'll be a long long time before I hear her pleasant Canadian accent again.

The equal rights people were after them due to the funny way they pronounce their 'o's RTE were able to hire a Canadian and say that they were doing their bit for the differetly abled.

Best ways to annoy Canadians:
"So what part of America are you from?"
"say "about", go on, say it, go on..."
Amazingly despite this, I still have several Canadian friends.

I really, really, really like Jenny's show. I am a fan to the point of embarrassment. I would prefer to have 4 narrow-minded shows than 4 radio stations that all play the same thing, oh, wait...

Is Electric Eddie still on the wireless these days or was he done away with after the shameful "Beat on the Street" riots in Tallaght circa '90? It all started as a backlash to the flagrant wearing of PVC jumpsuits & headbands ALLEDGEDLY, now you can't blame the kids for reacting in the way they did.

Usually when I meet Canadians I can't help myself, I have to work in the phrase "whats all that aboot eh?". Christ, I even sorta did it in my Martha Wanwright interview.
Then I apologise profusely.

Alison Curtis is Canadian as well. What's it with Canadian DJ chicks? Think she's better than Jenny Houston anyway.

I don't know about Electric Eddie but apparently Mickey Mac now presents a classical show on Lyric FM.

I'd go along with that, she plays slightly more diverse stuff.

Nooo, really ? Does he still call himself Mickey Mac, thats hardly a suitable name for classical music DJing. He's come a long way since Drivetime....
